Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy Kicks Off 2017-2018 School Year

Online School Welcomes Back Students September 5th

MANISTEE, Mich.--()--Students and teachers at Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy (MGLVA) head back to their virtual classes on Sept. 5th. An online public charter school authorized by Manistee Area Public Schools, MGLVA is a tuition-free school of choice for Michigan students in grades K-12.

MGLVA offers students a personalized approach to learning. The virtual school gives students the flexibility to pursue their academic goals at a pace that meets their needs.

“As an online school we can provide a unique level of support to our students,” says head of school Kendall Schroeder. “By building positive relationships, we partner with our families to ensure student success.”

Advanced learners can progress more quickly through lessons, while those needing more support can take the time they need. Michigan-certified teachers are available for one-to-one online meetings, and regularly communicate with students and families via phone and email.

Students at MGLVA tackle a full course load in the core subjects of math, science, English/language arts and history, as well as world languages and a host of elective, honors and Advanced Placement® courses at the high school level. Live, online lessons and class discussions are facilitated by teachers, and students become adept at using technology for their course work, projects and time management.

In addition to the virtual classroom, MGLVA students have access to resources such as books, workbooks, and materials for experiments and projects. Students have the opportunity throughout the year to meet their teachers and classmates in person, through school outings, field trips and social events. Students able to travel to Manistee Area Public Schools can also enroll in weekly in-person classes, including art, choir, drama, gym, swimming and Tae Kwon Do.
