BATON ROUGE, La.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--eQHealth Solutions’ executive, Vicky Ducworth, Senior Vice President of Government Programs, was honored by the South Carolina Hospital Association and awarded the prestigious 2017 Lewis Blackman Award. The award is given annually to those that have championed patient safety in the state and gone above and beyond the call of duty to ensure quality patient care. Ducworth, in a prior role, served as a Program Director at the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and helped design and develop the state’s Healthy Outcomes Plan (HOP).
In receiving this award, Ducworth was recognized for her contributions that have enabled South Carolina hospitals to develop community-based plans in association with 68 primary care safety net providers, 19 behavioral health clinics, and other organizations that serve the uninsured, with a projected $99.4 million in cost-avoidance realized from 2013-2018. In addition to the cost savings, the uninsured, high emergency department users who participated in this program received more holistic care, getting access to care coordinator and social worker resources and were provided increased access to community safety net resources. For patients, outcomes include improved care and lower emergency room utilization. Together these factors (a healthier population overall and lower emergency room use) were largely responsible for the cost savings for the South Carolina HOP program.
