GEICO Kicks off 2017 Military Service Awards to Honor Outstanding U.S. Service Members

WASHINGTON--()--In 1936, Leo and Lillian Goodwin’s vision for the company centered on providing insurance for government employees, military personnel and their families. GEICO continues to provide services for the military and the company is honored to support those who offer their services so willingly.

Following a long tradition, GEICO is now accepting nominations for the 30th annual GEICO Military Service Awards. Through this program, one member of each Military branch and one National Guard or Reserve Forces member will be honored for their outstanding volunteer service to their Military and civilian communities.

“In 1988 GEICO launched the Military Service Awards program to recognize the valuable contributions enlisted members of the Armed Forces make in their communities,” said Wayne Petro, director of GEICO's military department. “Many of our enlisted service members go above and beyond the call of duty, volunteering their time to support the public good. We are extremely proud to have the opportunity to honor those distinctive volunteers each year."

Each unit, base, post, or activity may nominate eligible enlisted members, according to the established procedures of its particular service. Nominees should exhibit noteworthy contributions or accomplishments while serving on active duty or in the reserves/national guard in one of the fields recognized by the GEICO Military Service Awards.

GEICO presents awards in three categories:

1) Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention

2) Fire Safety and Fire Prevention

3) Traffic Safety and Accident Prevention

The GEICO Philanthropic Foundation will present GEICO Military Service Award recipients with a cash award and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., from wherever they are serving.

The 2017 GEICO Military Service Awards ceremony will be held in Washington, D.C., on April 30, 2018, with military officials and GEICO representatives in attendance.

Nomination procedures are published by each individual service. Military members should contact their local base safety or personnel office for submission information.

Military members can learn more about the GEICO Military Service Awards through their local base safety or personnel office.
