CommCreative Announces Beyond Body as the Newest Factory Mark Gallery Exhibit

Figurative Artists Christine Sopata and Shailinn Messer to Showcase Works of Art

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--()--CommCreative, a leading unified marketing agency, today announced the Factory Mark Gallery’s newest art exhibit, Beyond Body. Featured artists Christine Sopata and Shailinn Messer will showcase 20 pieces of figurative art using mixed mediums, sculpture, and photography. Their artwork uses figure in unconventional ways to test and expose the perceived limitations and assumptions of the body through portrayals of the human form. Factory Mark Gallery, located at CommCreative’s headquarters, demonstrates the agency’s commitment to the arts community and was created so emerging and re-emerging artists can showcase their passion and receive 100 percent of their sales.

Beyond Body represents the next generation of figurative art, and we could not be more thrilled to have Shailinn’s and Christine’s work showcased at Factory Mark,” said Lisa McCarthy, agency principal at CommCreative. “I’ve been lucky enough to work with both of these talented artists during my time at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts (SMFA), and have witnessed their art pieces come to life over the course of our time there together. This exhibit is fascinating and I can’t wait for our team, clients, and the community to experience this progressive art firsthand.”

Sopata is a recent graduate of SMFA and a visual storyteller balancing narratives with allegorical imagery, inspired by the Bible, historical writings, nature, and ephemeral happenings. Her work documents the progress of healing and understanding the mind and spirit within the flesh. The series Sopata is exhibiting at Factory Mark Gallery, Incomplete Metamorphosis Stage Two: Face to Face, documents the progress of healing and understanding the mind and spirit within the flesh using the practice of self-casting and putrefying the surface through sculpture and mixed mediums.

Messer is a New England-based artist who recently received her BFA from SMFA following an education in psychology. Working with archival imagery and analogue photography, Messer reconstructs the human figure in an attempt to piece together distorted memories and make sense of confusing feelings, playing with gendered expectations and pushing the perceived limitations of the human body. Her practice in drawing is the foundation of her work, incorporating photographic technique and the mark making of a skilled painter to create a body of work that reflects the admiration of all.

“I’m so honored to be a part of this exhibit at Factory Mark alongside of Shailinn. While our work is so different from one another’s, it is fascinating to see the similarities in how we are showing the body through our work,” said Sopata. “At an age where technology and the virtual world are continuing to increase, I hope that our art can show how meaningful a human and physical connection is, and the importance of looking beyond the material world.”

“The vision of Factory Mark is so important for the art world in regard to what it does for emerging artists and how it supports the art community,” said Messer. “While at SMFA, I was constantly inspired by Lisa’s energy and intuitive art making, and she is actually the person who helped me stop being so restrictive as an artist. I am so excited to be able to work alongside her and the supportive group at CommCreative on this Beyond Body exhibit.”
