AmeriHealth Caritas Selected to Continue Providing Medicaid Services in Our Nation's Capital

PHILADELPHIA--()--AmeriHealth Caritas, a national leader in Medicaid managed care and other integrated health care solutions, announced today that its Washington, D.C., affiliate, AmeriHealth Caritas District of Columbia, has been notified by the Department of Health Care Finance of its intent to award AmeriHealth Caritas District of Columbia a contract to continue its Medicaid managed care program.

The program covers Medicaid eligible enrollees from the District Healthy Families Program, the District Healthcare Alliance Program and the Immigrant Children’s Program. The contract begins on Oct. 1, 2017, for one year, with options for the District to renew annually for up to four additional years.

AmeriHealth Caritas District of Columbia currently serves more than 105,000 members as the largest and highest-rated Medicaid plan in the District for the second year in a row, based on the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s 2015 – 2016 and 2016 – 2017 Medicaid Health Insurance Plan Ratings. The health plan has been actively engaged in community development and support, addressing issues related to homelessness, food insecurity, employment, transportation accessibility and more.

We are excited about this opportunity to continue serving the people of the District of Columbia, providing them with access to the quality care and services they deserve,” said Paul A. Tufano, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AmeriHealth Caritas. “Core to our mission is a strong belief that every individual should have access to health care, and for more than 30 years we have delivered that person-centered model of care to those most in need. This contract renewal allows us to continue helping our members get the care they need, stay well and build a healthier District of Columbia.”

AmeriHealth Caritas provides full-risk integrated Medicaid managed care services in Florida, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and the District of Columbia. AmeriHealth Caritas also serves dual eligibles in Michigan, Pennsylvania and South Carolina through Medicare Advantage special needs plans and Medicare-Medicaid plans.
