Books-A-Million to host the James Dashner Summer Reading Challenge through September 4

Bestselling author of The Maze Runner Series invites readers to keep minds keen and explore new quests

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--()--Ready, set, read! Books-A-Million and New York Times bestselling author James Dashner invite young readers to test literary limits this summer with the James Dashner Summer Reading Challenge starting May 21 and continuing through Labor Day Weekend. Participants are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones with something new, whether an adventure series or even the work of an author they have never read. Bookworms from elementary through high school can start their journey by selecting books from the reading list found at any Books-A-Million location or online at booksamillion.com.

“Studies show that children can lose up to two months of learning over the summer break, so it is important to engage the brain in activities like reading,” said Sandra Wilson, Vice President of Merchandising at Books-A-Million. “Our summer reading challenge gives children and teens a program that is not only fun but will help their overall learning skills.”

Books-A-Million 2017 Summer Reading Ambassador James Dashner will kick-off the summer reading program at the Books-A-Million in Katy, Texas on Thursday, May 25 at 6:30 p.m. Dashner, bestselling author of The Maze Runner Series and The Mortality Doctrine Series, is encouraging children to read titles such as “Wonder” and “The Phantom Tollbooth” and teen titles such as “Eragon” and “I Am the Messenger.”

Kids and teens taking part in this literary odyssey are required to read any four books from the designated list and return their completed reading journal with their parents’ signature to their local Books-A-Million location by store closing on Monday, September 4, 2017. Participants can access the full summer reading list and downloadable reading journal online at booksamillion.com or in person at any Books-A-Million store. Children who defy the odds and complete all four books from the summer reading list will receive a FREE Maze Runner Series water bottle while supplies last!
