Throughout the weekend-long hackathon, these organizations hope to collectively foster innovation by breaking down barriers faced by healthcare professionals and patients.
"We are very excited to be working with Hacking Health Ottawa and Shopify for #HIP613,” said Alex Munter, President and CEO of CHEO-OCTC. “Innovation is alive and well in the tech sector and on the front-line of care, but our systems are full of artificial barriers that get in the way. Events like this can change the game and turn good ideas into powerful solutions that make sense for children, youth and families all over the world.”
During the three-day event, dozens of healthcare providers will be teaming up with the tech community to tackle persistent challenges within healthcare. Each team will build tech-based prototypes aimed at improving healthcare for children and families.
“We’ve taken a unique approach to drive innovation here in Ottawa by building relationships with the hospital, private sector and academia,” said Haidee Thanda, Founder and lead of Hacking Health Ottawa. “It’s crucial to connect our problem solvers to a larger innovation ecosystem in order to realize solutions that can have a real impact.”
Opening remarks will be made by Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement, Mr. Steven MacKinnon, Mr. Munter and Hacking Health Ottawa CEO, Luc Sirois.
Participating teams have an opportunity to win $120K in value prizes and one team will be given the opportunity to pilot their project at CHEO-OCTC. A schedule of events can be found here.
