CyberLink to Enable World’s First Ultra HD Blu-Ray Software Player with Intel

PowerDVD 17 supports newest Blu-ray format on Intel® 7th Generation Core™ processors with Intel® SGX technology

TAIPEI, Taiwan--()--CyberLink Corp. (5203.TW), partnered with Intel® during the development of their flagship media playback software, PowerDVD. PowerDVD 17, unveiled earlier this month, is the world’s first and only software player to support playback of Ultra HD Blu-ray discs.

Ultra HD Blu-ray playback on PowerDVD will be available on PCs running Intel's latest 7th Generation Core™ processors using Intel® SGX, which supports premium 4K movies and media. Intel® SGX is a new technology that uses protected areas of execution on Intel® processors to enhance the ability of application developers to safeguard sensitive data from unauthorized access and enhance the security of media.

“CyberLink has enjoyed a rewarding partnership with Intel for the last 20 years, enabling us to provide our customers with some incredible innovations in multimedia playback and editing,” said Dr. Jau Huang, CEO of CyberLink. “We’ve once again been able to bring movie enthusiasts levels of quality unavailable anywhere else, confirming our newly released PowerDVD 17 as the clear market leader.”

“CyberLink continues to enable incredible media experiences for users and Intel is excited to bring Ultra HD Blu-ray quality to consumers on devices powered by 7th Generation Intel Core processors through PowerDVD 17,” said Jeff Lawrence, general manager of Media and Content Protection for Intel Corporation. “With Intel SGX integration, PowerDVD is able to offer enhanced security across many Intel devices, making it feasible for content owners to securely release more high quality video.”

Ultra HD Blu-ray playback on PowerDVD requires 7th Generation Intel Core i5/i7 processors, Intel HD Graphics 630 chipsets, and HDR, HDCP 2.2 and HDMI2.0a compatible motherboards and displays.

PowerDVD 17 introduced a number of other innovations, including the ability to playback HDR and virtual reality (VR) content from the PC. Together with a complete range of TrueTheater image and audio enhancement technologies, combined with an award-winning user interface designed to easily access and manage users’ entire media collection, PowerDVD is the ultimate media platform. It is the essential addition to 4K and HDR TVs, home entertainment systems and VR headsets such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
