TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The LIXIL Foundation (located in Koto-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Yoko Ushioda), which facilitates surveys and research related to the housing and building materials industries as well as supporting the development of human resources, decided upon the following three universities to proceed to the Open Final Screening from the 13 universities in 11 countries after the stringent documentary examination by the jury in the 7th LIXIL International Student Architectural Competition held for the purpose of seeking and reviewing next-generation sustainable housing technology and communicating that technology to global society.

In the 7th competition, 13 designated universities in 11 countries worldwide were invited to submit proposals for the special space “furo” (bath) for the first time in the history of the competition, under the theme of “Spa in the Nature.” The entrants are required to propose a spa that attracts people, allowing them to be with nature and relax in Taiki-cho, Hokkaido.
The jury is headed by globally renowned architect, Kengo Kuma; the other members are Tomonari Yashiro, professor of Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo, Kundo Koyama, television, radio and script writer, Dana Buntrock, architect and professor of University of California, Berkeley, and Yoshiharu Tsukamoto, architect, co-founder of Atelier Bow-Wow and professor of Graduate School of Architecture and Building Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology.
The winning university will be selected from three finalists at the Open Final Screening at Keidanren Kaikan in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo on Wednesday April 19, 2017. The winner will install the proposed facility in Memu Meadows site located in Taiki-cho, Hokkaido.

Outline of LIXIL International Student Architectural Competition
The
LIXIL International Student Architectural Competition is a design
competition hosted by LIXIL Foundation for university research
laboratories.
Situated on a site in the Memu Meadows of Hokkaido’s
Taiki-cho, we seek sustainable architectural solutions from nominative
universities around the world.
The winning university will be
responsible for the project throughout the construction phase.
