Globoforce Announces LGBTQ Rights Advocate and Actor Chaz Bono as Keynote Speaker for WorkHuman 2017 Conference

Bono’s commitment to social justice encourages greater diversity and inclusion in the workplace

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. & DUBLIN--()--Globoforce®, a leading provider of social recognition solutions, today announced LGBTQ advocate and actor Chaz Bono as a keynote speaker for its third annual WorkHuman® 2017 conference, May 30-June 1, in Phoenix, Ariz., at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort.

Bono, a transgender male and the only child of performers Sonny and Cher, is an Emmy-nominated producer and an accomplished writer. He joins “Seinfeld” and “Veep” actress and comedienne Julia Louis-Dreyfus, New York Times best-selling author and Quiet Revolution co-founder Susan Cain, and top-ranked Wharton School professor and New York Times best-selling author Adam Grant as WorkHuman keynote speakers.

“We all want the same thing in life. We all want to be seen and appreciated for who we truly are,” said Bono. “To me there is such beauty and potential in people who are able to embrace their true and authentic selves. Since the people we work with make up the vast majority of our daily human interactions, it’s important that we work together to promote a workplace culture that encourages people to do just that, to be their true selves. I’m honored to join the Globoforce community and speak on behalf of a company that believes in building work cultures that honor humanity, connection, trust, and inclusion – values I wholeheartedly believe in.”

WorkHuman is dedicated to helping educate, energize, and engage business and HR leaders to build a more human-focused work culture. The movement serves as the catalyst for creating a more inclusive and human workplace – one that values individuals as key components to the growth and success of an organization. The annual event has grown exponentially in size since the inaugural event in 2015, and has featured some of the world’s most influential thought leaders and visionaries, including Arianna Huffington, renowned business thinker Gary Hamel, actor Michael J. Fox, and best-selling author Shawn Achor.

“We admire Chaz for honoring his identity and being his authentic self,” said Eric Mosley, CEO of Globoforce. “He is an inspiration to promote human potential, put people first, and promote work cultures that celebrate diversity, inclusion, and belonging. We know that employees are more empowered to do their best work in a supportive and human-focused environment. This starts with a single moment of gratitude, amplified across an organization. That is our mission through WorkHuman – to spark the fire that ignites a movement toward greater humanity, inclusion, and recognition in the modern workplace.”

In 2011, Bono was featured in the three-time Emmy®-nominated documentary “Becoming Chaz,” a film about his life and experiences which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. His acting career includes repeat appearances on the television shows “American Horror Story,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Where the Bears Are” and “Degrassi” as well as cameos on “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” and the feature film “Dirty.”

Bono is the acclaimed author of Transition: The Story of How I Became a Man, a groundbreaking account of his struggle to align his gender identity with his physical body, and his transition from female to male, as well as Family Outing and The End of Innocence. His decision to come out as lesbian in 1995 sparked his public work to support LGBTQ rights and social justice. Since then, he has contributed extensively to The Advocate, a national gay and lesbian news magazine and is committed to raising awareness through college lecturing and facilitating workshops on conducting tolerance in the workplace for major companies and corporations. He has served as a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign, promoting National Coming Out Day, and as the entertainment media director for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).
