CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--()--The University of North Carolina (UNC) Kenan-Flagler Business School has named Mary Moore Hamrick the new chair of its Alumni Council. Hamrick, who currently serves as Grant Thornton LLP’s national managing principal of Public Policy, based in Washington, D.C., has long been an active member in UNC’s alumni program.

The Alumni Council is both an advisory and a working group allowing members to actively engage with and support UNC Kenan-Flagler and the broader community of almost 35,000 business graduates working in 50 states and 80 countries. Members represent the school’s portfolio of degree programs and they work in large and small companies in a variety of industries. They also act as an extension of the school within members’ cities, communities, workplaces and professional network – and serve on strategic committees.

“We feel fortunate to be able to name someone of Mary Moore’s considerable talent and vast experience as the Alumni Council chair,” said Douglas A. Shackelford, dean of UNC Kenan-Flagler. “She is the ideal candidate for the position; we are excited to have her take a more active role in shaping the school’s alumni efforts.”

“I look forward to working with council members to further expand upon UNC Kenan-Flagler’s alumni relations and initiatives,” said Hamrick. “The education and love for life-long learning I received from UNC Kenan-Flagler has been invaluable and I’m pleased to be playing a more active role on the school’s alumni council.”

Hamrick leads Grant Thornton’s public policy initiatives and is directly responsible for external and internal strategy and tactics. She liaises with members of Congress, accounting professional standard setters, regulators and other influencers. Hamrick and her team are trusted resources to the firm’s partners, clients, and the nation’s legislators.

Hamrick graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1987 and received a juris doctor degree from the UNC School of Law and a master’s of business administration degree from UNC Kenan-Flagler. She received a bachelor's degree in management sciences, cum laude, from Duke University.
