LEXINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--iBasis, a KPN company, and Turkcell, Turkey’s integrated mobile and fixed telecommunications operator, have collaborated to open an IPX Point of Presence (PoP) in Istanbul. The new IPX PoP builds on Turkcell’s efforts to provide multiple services including 2G/3G and LTE Signaling and Roaming to enrich the customer roaming experience and is expected to stimulate growth in LTE services throughout the region. The PoP also expands the reach of the iBasis global IPX network, which already includes more than 450 LTE destinations worldwide.
As a result of this collaboration, Eurasian and Middle Eastern mobile operators now have a single point of contact for global IPX reach with secure end-to-end quality of service, enabling them to offer roaming subscribers the full range of LTE services. By offering roaming services from Istanbul, the new iBasis PoP will support growth of the mobile ecosystem and accelerate the market for LTE services throughout Eurasia and Middle East. The geographical redundancy, diversity of transmission routes and high availability of the Turkcell network infrastructure will secure service stability.
“We are very pleased to expand the partnership we started with Turkcell more than 10 years ago. Today, we provide the full range of global services – voice, data, signaling and roaming, leveraging our IPX network to support their impressive growth,” said Feddo Hazewindus, President and CEO of iBasis. “It’s truly a win-win partnership, using our different capabilities to generate new revenue opportunities for both of us and strengthening the international communications ecosystem. This is how our industry can grow and better serve its subscribers around the world.”
“With the target of transforming the Silk Road into the Fiber Road, Turkcell cooperates with international operators and continues to take important steps to advance the evolution of Istanbul into the world’s newest Internet base due to it geostrategic location. Accordingly, we provide a bridge between East and West, which supplies a continuous connection with the speed of light, by partnering with Tier-1 operators. We have been working very closely with iBasis for many years, and together we have forged strong relationships across multiple teams to better address our business requirements. This successful collaboration is a result of our common focus on innovation and delivering the best user experience globally. We aim to provide fast and reliable service to inbound and outbound roamers, decrease latency and create resell opportunities for the service,” said Emre Erdem, Carrier Relations & Wholesale Director, Turkcell.
