WEST WARWICK, R.I.--()--LED innovation powerhouse Lighting Science today announced that it has been named a 2017 Award Finalist by the internationally renowned Edison Awards in two categories: The L-Bar for Energy and Sustainability-Energy Efficiency and the Genesis DynaSpectrum for Consumer Electronics & Information Technology-Healthy Lighting. The distinguished awards, inspired by Thomas Edison’s persistence and inventiveness, recognize innovation, creativity and ingenuity in the global economy.

“It’s exciting to see companies like Lighting Science continuing Thomas Edison’s legacy of challenging conventional thinking,” said Frank Bonafilia, Edison Awards’ executive director. “Edison Awards recognizes the game-changing products and services, and the teams that brought them to consumers.”

Award winners will be recognized April 20, 2017 at the Edison Awards Annual Gala, held in the historic Ballroom of the Capitale in New York City.

“We’re deeply gratified to be recognized by the Edison Awards committee for our longstanding commitment to innovation and sustainability,” said Lighting Science CEO Ed Bednarcik. “Lighting Science prides itself on producing innovative lighting products, like the Genesis and the L-Bar, that positively impact human health and the environment. By reimagining what light can — and should be - Lighting Science is paving the way forward for the future of light.”

The Energy-Efficient L-Bar, The Pinnacle of Sustainability

The high-performance L-Bar is a T8 LED luminaire delivering superior lumen output of 4250 lumens/142 lumens per Watt. It is so effective that just one L-Bar linear can replace a standard 25 pound 2’x 4’ fluorescent troffer. Weighing in at a mere 19 ounces, the L-Bar is a snap to install and can be mounted directly to the ceiling, making it the ideal solution for new commercial construction or legacy fluorescent lighting replacements.

Thanks to innovative engineering, the L-Bar is also a model of sustainable lighting design. The innovative luminaire uses about 95 percent less material than a standard 2x4 troffer, which weighs about 25 pounds. The L-Bar’s trim profile also requires 80 percent less packaging, significantly decreasing associated product waste.

The Genesis DynaSpectrum Helps Regulate the Circadian Rhythm

The patented Genesis DynaSpectrum (Genesis), part of Lighting Science’s HealthE series, is the world’s first commercially-available luminaire to deliver biologically-optimized light for every time of the day – on demand. The Genesis emits a spectrum of light that mimics both daylight (GoodDay®) and twilight (GoodNight) to help naturally regulate the body’s circadian rhythm.

Lighting Science’s proprietary DynaSpectrum technology was originally developed in collaboration with NASA for use on the International Space Station, where astronauts experience 16 sunrises and sunsets every 24 hours and have issues adjusting their circadian rhythms to the extreme rigors of life in space.

Additionally, Genesis' on-board VOC sensors monitor local air quality and will alert you if it finds a problem. The lamp is controlled through an easy-to-use Smartphone app which can assist in color/spectrum setting, and can be switched to auto-mode to sync day or night spectrums to your local time anywhere in the world. This makes Genesis ideal for the bedside table, office desk or for the international traveler or athlete seeking to prevent jet lag through time-shifted circadian dysfunction.

The Genesis DynaSpectrum was also awarded Top Home Product of the Year by Popular Science magazine in late 2016.
