CareMore Health System Names Dr. Zubin Eapen as Chief Medical Officer

CERRITOS, Calif.--()--CareMore Health System has named Zubin J. Eapen, M.D., MHS as its new system Chief Medical Officer effective February 6. Dr. Eapen was selected following an extensive national search after its prior chief medical officer, Dr. Sachin H. Jain, was appointed to serve as CareMore's president last April. In his new role, Dr. Eapen will lead the development of novel clinical strategies and approaches to improve care.

Dr. Eapen previously served as Associate Professor of Medicine of the Division of Cardiology and Medical Director of the Same-Day Access Heart Failure Clinic at Duke University where he led efforts to reduce admissions and readmissions among high-risk heart failure patients. He also served as the Department of Medicine's Director of Clinical Improvement. Dr. Eapen received his undergraduate degree as a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina; his medical degree (MD) from the Duke University School of Medicine; and underwent his internal medicine and cardiology training at Duke University Medical Center.

“Dr. Eapen is a rare physician talent who combines a commitment to true clinical excellence with a passion for care redesign,” said Jain. “He will play a key role in driving the continued evolution of the CareMore model to better serve complex, high-cost, high-need patients--and bring a level of academic rigor to validating and improving upon our industry-leading clinical outcomes.”

Dr. Eapen is a member of the American Heart Journal editorial board and was the electronic media editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Heart Failure. He is the author of numerous medical publications and the editor of the 14th edition of Hurst’s The Heart.

“CareMore’s commitment to providing exceptional care to the most vulnerable populations and beyond, align with my passion for improving care coordination, disease management, and patient outcomes,” said Eapen. “I am honored to take on this role with an organization that has a national reputation for its unique approach to healthcare. I am excited to meet and work with the entire CareMore team to provide our patients with the excellent care and service they deserve."

Dr. Eapen and Dr. Jain collaborated on a blog in yesterday’s Harvard Business Review that highlights CareMore's approach to managing high-cost, high-need patients.

Eapen's announcement follows the appointment last month of Karen Sugano as CareMore's Chief Operating Officer. A national search remains underway for a Chief Clinical Operations Officer to lead CareMore's clinical operations in seven states.
