Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll PLLC Welcomes Former New Jersey Bureau of Securities Chief Laura H. Posner

Posner Joins Firm as a Partner in the Securities Litigation and Investor Protection Practice Group

NEW YORK--()--Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll PLLC, a leading national plaintiffs’ law firm, announced today that Laura H. Posner has joined the firm as a partner in the Securities Litigation and Investor Protection Practice Group. Prior to joining Cohen Milstein, Posner served as the Bureau Chief for the New Jersey Attorney General’s Bureau of Securities—the top securities regulator for the state. In that role she was responsible for enforcing New Jersey’s securities laws and regulations, and successfully recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for defrauded New Jersey residents.

“Laura Posner has dedicated her career to helping hardworking Americans who have been defrauded,” said Steven J. Toll, Managing Partner at Cohen Milstein and Co-Chair of the firm’s Securities Litigation and Investor Protection practice. “We are thrilled that she is bringing her talents and experience to the firm.”

“I have spent my entire career seeking justice for those have seen their life’s savings stolen right from under them, and working with some of the most highly-respected attorneys around the country at Cohen Milstein is an ideal opportunity to continue that practice,” said Laura H. Posner, Partner at Cohen Milstein. “I look forward to this new chapter and to working closely with the entire Securities Litigation and Investor Protection group.”

Prior to her appointment as Bureau Chief, Posner litigated class action lawsuits on behalf of public pension funds, institutional investors, and unions nationwide, recovering billions on behalf of defrauded investors, a role that she will continue at Cohen Milstein. Posner has successfully prosecuted a number of high-profile fraud cases, including some of the largest shareholder actions in history.

Posner also formulated nationwide policy, oversaw state securities regulator multi-jurisdictional enforcement actions and developed cooperative multi-agency models through her work at the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA), where she served as the Chairwoman of the NASAA Enforcement Section, and on NASAA’s Multi-Jurisdictional Action, Technology and State Legislation committees. She has also served on multiple committees of the New York City Bar Association, including the Securities Litigation Committee, on which she currently sits, and previously on the Securities Regulation and Consumer Affairs Committees.

Super Lawyers has awarded Posner the honor of “Rising Star” and “Top Woman Attorney” several times and she regularly speaks at legal conferences throughout the country on topics including state securities regulation and investor protection. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles and earned her law degree at Harvard Law School, where she served on the Executive Editorial Committee for the Harvard Women's Law Journal.
