Catholic Health Services Begins System-wide Rollout of Uniphy Health Collaboration App

App assists physicians in sharing clinical information, communicating with staff and managing referrals

NEWARK, N.J.--()--Uniphy Health—a leader in mobile solutions for clinical communications and collaboration—today announced the rollout of its mobile app to physicians in and affiliated with the Catholic Health Services (CHS) to increase secure and immediate communications among hospital staff and physicians and to help with better physician referrals.

Drawing on the capabilities of the Uniphy Health platform, the CHS application—available on iOS and Android devices—features real-time on-call schedules and organizational news updates that assist employed and affiliated physicians and result in robust communication and collaboration.

“At a time when health care organizations are being asked to run more like efficient corporations, they need the same powerful groupware tools that businesses have depended on for decades,” said Dr. Stuart Hochron, chief medical officer and co-founder of Uniphy Health. “Not having those systems in place makes it harder to deliver high-quality care to consumers.”

Built on Uniphy Health’s secure, cloud-based platform, the CHS app offers a range of features to facilitate communication, collaboration and coordination, including:

  • Searchable physician directory
  • Patient consults
  • Image sharing for remote diagnoses
  • Message delivery and read receipt confirmation
  • Organizational news and alerts

CHS Vice President for Clinical Transformation and Population Health Joel Shu, M.D., sought to enhance his organization’s communications and collaboration needs when he learned of Uniphy Health’s mobile solutions. “It was apparent that Uniphy Health addressed CHS’s and its clinically integrated physician network’s requirements,” said Dr. Shu. “The differentiator with Uniphy Health is that their platform is designed from the ground up for clinical communications. There are bigger players in health care IT, the EHRs, for example, but when they try to bolt something onto their existing systems, it’s not always successful.”

Adam Turinas, chief executive officer of Uniphy Health, notes Uniphy Health is increasingly part of communications-driven workflow solutions that are playing a larger role in the clinical organization.

“Many of the challenges in health care today, such as referral leakage, involve a ‘failure to communicate’ securely, efficiently and reliably,” said Turinas. “The Uniphy Health platform improves patient outcomes and organizational efficiency, creating a stronger network with higher-performing care teams and a happier, healthier patient population.”

CHS’s Dr. Shu notes that user adoption, facilitated by the Uniphy Health implementation team and CHS’s physician liaisons, is the ultimate success metric. “Physicians prefer tools that improve how they work and care for patients. We’re looking for this app to become part of their daily routine.”
