All New Box Notes Makes Real-Time Collaboration Easier Than Ever

New Web and Desktop Applications Seamlessly Integrate with Box’s Enterprise-Grade Compliance, Security and Data Governance Capabilities

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--()--Box, Inc. (NYSE: BOX) today introduced breakthrough updates to Box Notes, a real-time collaboration tool for teams built directly into Box. Available now, the new Box Notes features a streamlined web experience that makes it easy to create, edit and view all of your notes within a single browser window, and a new standalone desktop application for Mac and PC. Box Notes seamlessly incorporates the powerful collaboration features and robust security controls that more than 69,000 Box customers rely on every day.

“Box is where all of your work comes together, and collaborating in real-time is an essential part of the way organizations work today,” said Aaron Levie, cofounder and CEO, Box. “The all new Box Notes makes it incredibly easy to capture ideas, take notes and share information while also benefitting from Box’s enterprise-grade compliance, security, and data residency features.”

Today, nearly 40% of the Fortune 500 leverage Box Notes for real-time collaboration that's secure and compliant. Companies and organizations such as GE, Astra Zeneca, Schneider Electric, Indiana University and ASPCA have benefitted from Box Notes, leveraging the tool to make it easier for teams to stay in-sync, secure, and productive no matter where they are across the globe.

The new Box Notes features:

  • An intuitive new web application for fast collaboration. The Box Notes web experience has been redesigned around a new easy to access sidebar where you can access and pull up notes, including those you’ve bookmarked as a “favorite” in Box or notes you’ve recently edited. By putting all these recent and favorite notes in one place, you no longer will need to leave Box Notes to search folders in Box or check your notifications.
  • A new desktop application for Mac and PC. The new Box Notes provides the same features of the Box Notes web experience in a standalone application available right from your desktop, so your notes are always just one click away. In a future release, you will also be able to work on Box Notes offline, so that you can capture ideas whenever the mood strikes. As soon as you reconnect, all edits will sync to Box so everyone has the latest, up-to-date version.

"Box Notes has been a crucial tool for Lennar and because it's built in Box, we commonly use it for writing down action items, consolidating weekly sales updates, and taking collaborative notes during conference calls." said Lara Knight of Lennar Corporation. "We're excited to see Box putting a continued focus on new features and updates for Notes with the new web experience and desktop application – features that will make our employees even more productive."

Box Notes was first introduced in 2013 and became available on mobile in 2014. Box Notes includes useful organizational tools like the ability to create tables, checklists and numbering, as well as critical collaboration features like version history, annotations, and the ability to see who is viewing or editing a note in real-time. Since it’s built on Box’s enterprise content platform, Box Notes benefits from robust collaboration features, such as task management, workflow automation, comments and real-time alerts, as well as its world-class security and control capabilities, like granular permissions, password protected content and access stats.

“One of the most common struggles employees face is the overwhelming complexity of having to use too many tools to get their jobs done," said Alan Lepofsky, VP and Principal Analyst, Constellation Research. “Having file-sharing and document authoring in a single user-experience helps to reduce that burden, making it easier for people to create, find and share the content they need.”

Pricing and Availability

The new Box Notes web application and desktop application are both available to customers today for no additional fee. The offline experience will be available later this year.
