ComEd’s Energy Efficiency Program Saves Customers More Than $2 Billion

Company marks the significant milestone with incentive check presentation to La Rabida Children’s Hospital for their energy efficiency upgrades

CHICAGO--()--ComEd’s Energy Efficiency Program is making the holidays a little brighter this season as it hit a significant milestone of $2.1 billion in savings for ComEd customers. The company recently celebrated the results at a presentation where La Rabida Children’s Hospital received an incentive check from the Program totaling $73,294.

ComEd’s Energy Efficiency Program, which has been around since 2008, is not only saving customers billions of dollars on their energy bills, but it also is helping to save our environment by eliminating 27.1 billion pounds of CO2 emissions -- the equivalent to taking 2.5 million cars off the road; and reduced energy usage by more than 19.5 million megawatt hours – enough energy to power more than 2.1 million homes for a year.

“I can’t think of a better way to mark such a great milestone in our Energy Efficiency Program than to provide one of its incentive checks to La Rabida Children’s Hospital for their energy-saving efforts,” said Val Jensen, senior vice president of Customer Operations. “We have one of the leading energy efficiency programs in the nation, which continues to deliver the value our customers want - helping them save energy, money and be good stewards of their environment. The savings provided by our Energy Efficiency Program also allows our customers and organizations like La Rabida Children’s Hospital, to redirect their savings to the children and families they serve.”

La Rabida Children’s Hospital has participated in two of ComEd’s energy efficiency projects since 2013, including the installation of a new HVAC energy management system, which is more efficient and provides enhanced control options.

According to La Rabida, the $73,294 amount of the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program check is the equivalent of:

  • Providing 20 children with a full year’s funding of outpatient mental health care;
  • Supporting four families with a child who has a feeding problem for 12 weeks; or
  • Covering the cost of 100 double strollers for babies who are born extremely premature and are unable to use a traditional stroller for mobility.

The hospital’s energy efficiency upgrades will help them save more than 483,026 kilowatt hours of energy annually, the greenhouse gas equivalent of removing 71 vehicles from the road each year, the recycling of 108 tons of waste being recycled versus landfilled and the amount of energy to powering 36 homes for one year.

With the recently passed Future Energy Jobs Bill, ComEd will double its energy efficiency program to help its customer save even more energy and money, while reducing the impact on the environment.

Customers can sign up for a free ComEd Home Energy Assessment, which gives personalized savings recommendations they can use to better control the energy usage in their home. In addition, customers can take advantage of cash rebates on select ENERGY STAR® certified appliances, in-store discounts on select ENERGY STAR certified CFLs and LEDs and earn $50 for free pickup of old, working fridges or freezers.
