A Safe and Affordable Ride Home This Christmas with Kater

Forget long taxi waits this holiday season. A Surrey startup company offers a cheap and convenient alternative, in partnership with the restaurant industry.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--()--It’s that time of year again. Holiday parties abound and with that comes tempting treats - both food and drink.

But two groups have partnered to make your Christmas season a little safer. And cheaper.

Kater, a Surrey startup company, is a professional driving service that allows people to hire trusted personal drivers for their vehicle.

The thing that makes Kater stand out from other companies is its affordability. The company provides a driver for your vehicle for just $25 per hour with a minimum charge of $50.

There’s no wait, no charge for the number of drop offs required, and no charge for parking during your service.

That means you can go from a gala to a pub, all while the driver waits. Or share a five-hour service with friends if you’re partying in Downtown Vancouver and need to get back home to Surrey.

It’s cheaper than taking a taxi and certainly more convenient.

With the download of an app and a few swipes, you book the best time for your driver to arrive and get on with your event.

“It’s convenient, affordable and easy,” said Raman Khtaria, Project Manager with Kater. “The holiday season is a time when taxis are hard to get, wait times are long, and they can be extremely expensive if travelling far distances. Our service ‘katers’ to the traveller, party go-ers and the business executive alike."

“Our service is also the perfect gift,” Khtaria added. “Parents can buy their children the gift of a safe ride home, and in turn, peace of mind.”

Kater is partnering with the BC Restaurant & Food Services Association to get people home safe this Christmas.

“There is a real concern over lack of taxis to handle the Christmas rush,” said Ian Tostenson President and CEO of BC Restaurant & Food Services Association. “We have jointly developed an innovative solution to the problem.”

It’s estimated that every year in Canada between 1,250 and 1,500 people are killed in impairment-related crashes.
