GREENVILLE, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Span-America Medical Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPAN) announced today that the Board of Directors elected Linda D. Norman as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors. Norman was first elected to Span-America’s Board of Directors in 2006 and currently serves as the Chair of the Board’s Nominating and Governance Committee. Dr. Norman has been in the field of nursing and nursing education since beginning her carrier in 1969. In July 2013, she was named Dean of Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in Nashville, TN.
Dr. Norman’s election as Vice-Chair of the Board is part of the Board’s succession and transition planning as Tom Henrion, the current Chairman, will retire from the board following the 2018 annual shareholders’ meeting in accordance with the company's retirement policy for directors. The board expects that Dr. Norman will become Chairwoman of the Board in 2018 following Mr. Henrion's retirement.
Prior to her appointment as Dean of Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, she was the Senior Associate Dean for Academics at the Vanderbilt’s School of Nursing. She has been involved nationally in the areas of care of the elderly and quality improvement and patient safety in health care.
