Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Expands $0 Premium Medicare Advantage HMO Plans to Six Colorado Counties

Also Adds Remote Access Technologies with No Copay to all MA Plans

DENVER--()--For this year’s Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP), Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield (Anthem) is expanding its $0 premium Medicare Advantage (MA) Classic HMO and its $0 premium MA Dual-Eligible Special Needs Plan (DSNP) HMO to six Colorado counties. The company also is adding the ability to contact doctors through remote access technologies for the AEP, which begins Oct. 15 and continues through Dec. 7 and is the one time each year when most people can switch MA plans.

Both expansion plans feature medical and drug coverage. The traditional HMO, called Anthem MediBlue Plus (HMO), includes $5 copays at participating primary care physicians as well as $0 copay for certain drugs that treat conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and osteoporosis. The DSNP, called Anthem MediBlue Dual Advantage (HMO DSNP), coordinates benefits for people eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare and includes dental, vision and hearing benefits, an over-the-counter drug benefit, podiatry services at no extra cost, transportation to medical services and a no-cost fitness benefit.

Both of these plans are being expanded to Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, El Paso, Larimer and Pueblo counties. Anthem also continues to offer MA plans in Denver and Douglas counties.

These plans feature the ability to reach doctors for medical and behavioral health services through remote access technologies at $0 copay. To access these technologies, participants can visit a U.S.-based, board certified doctor of their choice on a secure connection over the Internet via a smart phone, tablet or computer using LiveHealth Online, a website that allows patients to connect with doctors 24/7.

“This technology can be a great alternative in a number of situations, including accessing health care on evenings and weekends, for people living in rural areas or who travel a lot, and for those with mobility issues,” said Joshua D. Martin, president of Anthem Medicare’s west region.

In addition to MA plans, Anthem offers standalone PDP plans in all Colorado counties. Anthem also offers Medicare Supplement plans all across the state. These plans help cover costs Original Medicare doesn’t, such as copayments, coinsurance and deductibles at any doctor or medical facility that accepts Medicare, generally for a higher premium than an MAPD. They are generally paired with a PDP.

“We pride ourselves in being one of the nation’s only insurers that can offer a full continuum of Medicare products, including something for every budget and lifestyle,” Martin said.
