William Osler Health System Chooses Extension Healthcare’s Clinical Communication and Collaboration Platform

Extension Engage patient-centric texting and alarm management solutions to be deployed enterprise-wide for healthcare system in Ontario

FORT WAYNE, Ind.--()--Extension Healthcare and William Osler Health System (Osler) – one of Canada’s largest community hospital systems serving a population of over 1.3 million people living in one of the fastest-growing and most culturally diverse regions of the country – announced today that it has selected the Extension Engage™ platform as its Unified Communication alerting and secure messaging solution, after an extensive RFP process. With Extension Engage, Osler will modernize its communication platform; empowering caregivers to more easily communicate, collaborate, and deliver the highest quality of patient care across its three health care facilities.

In part, Extension Engage and Engage Mobile, a unified clinical communication and collaboration solution, was selected for its unique ability to handle extensive clinical and business systems integration, send intelligent and contextual patient event notifications to caregiver’s mobile phones, ease and streamline messaging between providers, and facilitate secure patient-centric texting for caregivers - all delivered from a single platform and vendor.

Dr. Asim Masood, Regional Chief Medical Information Officer at Osler and James Moolecherry, Regional Chief Technology Officer at Osler, were instrumental in defining the scope of the project and selecting the best solution and company to meet the needs of nurses, physicians, and ancillary staff across the entire health care system.

“We are pleased to partner with Extension Healthcare and excited about the possibilities for innovation in technology across our hospital sites,” said Dr. Masood. “With the Extension Engage platform, we have an opportunity to further enhance communications and collaboration amongst physicians and staff – supporting the delivery of high-quality care and improving the patient experience.”

Extension has more than 230 hospitals using the Extension Engage clinical communication and collaboration solution. The win at Osler represents Extension’s commitment to earning enterprise health system customers in Canada. Chief Executive Officer of Extension Healthcare, Todd Plesko, said, “This is all part of a deliberate and well-planned expansion into Canada. We have fully resourced clinical, technical, and support resources to handle the largest Canadian systems, like Osler.” Plesko added, “As we grow our customer base in Canada we are well-prepared to add additional resources. Our immersion into Canada is something we are all very excited about.”

Extension Healthcare will be exhibiting its clinical communication and collaboration solutions in the Intelligent Health Pavilion at HealthAchieve in Toronto, Canada on November 7-9, 2016. Dr. Masood and James Moolecherry will give a presentation at the Intelligent Health Pavilion on Monday, November 8, 2016 at 1:00 PM. All conference attendees are encouraged to attend the presentation to learn about William Osler’s decision process, UC strategy, and plans to use Engage for texting, alerting to mobile phones, and improved workflow and communications.

Extension Healthcare

Extension Healthcare’s Engage™ "one platform" approach improves clinical communication, collaboration, care coordination, and workflow with a specific focus on reducing unnecessary clinical interruptions and improving response to critical patient events. With what is traditionally accomplished using several vendors and platforms, Extension combines comprehensive alarm management with secure communications on a single platform. The Extension platform intelligently notifies clinicians about real-time patient events through context-driven notifications to smartphones and other common mobile communication devices. Designed for enabling situational awareness and timely information sharing across care teams inside and outside the hospital, Engage aggregates alarm, patient, and care team data from a variety of systems including physiological monitors, nurse call and lab systems, Electronic Health Records (EHR), and location sensing technologies and sends relevant information to enhance the usefulness of alarm and alert notifications. Leveraging the common platform that is purpose built for extensive integration and data aggregation, the Engage Mobile secure texting solution helps to expedite care coordination in response to events. With proven integrations and interoperability in more than 230 hospitals, Extension Healthcare has become a leading solution for improving care quality and patient and caregiver experiences.
