OAKLAND, Calif.--()--Revolution Foods, the leading provider of healthy family and school meals across America, announced today that Arne Duncan, former U.S. Secretary of Education under the Obama administration, will join the company’s board of directors.

“Arne’s insights and extensive experience in education will be invaluable as we continue to build a true system-changing company, leading the way in providing healthy, affordable meals in schools and in homes across the country,” said Kristin Groos Richmond, co-founder and CEO of Revolution Foods. “He has made an enormous impact on the lives of children throughout his career, and we are honored to work with him to further our mission to create lifelong healthy eaters and set every child up for success each day.”

Revolution Foods started by igniting a healthy food movement in schools and currently serves over two million freshly-prepared meals each week to students in schools across the country. Expanding beyond schools to give families access to easy, healthy meals throughout the day, Revolution Foods is revolutionizing the consumer packaged food industry with a fast-growing line of innovative meal solutions available in more than 4,500 grocery stores including Safeway, Target, Walmart and Whole Foods.

"We must do everything we can to give children a chance to be successful in school and in life,” said Duncan. “I am excited to join the board of Revolution Foods because giving children a chance to eat healthy food and build healthy habits must be part of that strategy.”

Duncan is currently a managing partner at Emerson Collective, an organization dedicated to removing barriers to opportunity and focused on education, immigration reform, the environment and other social justice initiatives. Prior to joining the Obama administration, Duncan served as chief executive officer of Chicago Public Schools where he won praise for uniting the city’s stakeholders behind an education agenda that included opening 100 new schools and building public-private partnerships around a variety of education initiatives.

Arne joins a board comprised of business experts and values-based investors including Steve Case, co-founder of AOL and founding partner of Revolution Growth and Richard Schnieders, former CEO and chairman of Sysco. Revolution Foods investors also include Catamount, DBL Partners and Westly Group.

About Revolution Foods

Founded in 2006 by two moms on a mission to transform the way America eats, Revolution Foods set out to solve the problem of limited access to healthy, delicious, affordable meals. The company’s innovative approach began with serving freshly prepared, healthy meals to students in schools nationwide, and the company is now serving over 2 million school meals every week in 15 states. Parent and kid demand for Revolution Foods meals inspired the company to expand to grocery store aisles, and the company now offers a full line of healthy, ready-to-eat, on-the-go meals to nourish families throughout the day. Revolution Foods meals – covering breakfast, lunch, and dinner occasions - can be found in more than 4,500 grocery stores nationwide, including Target, Whole Foods, Safeway, Stop & Shop, Vons and Raley’s. Revolution Foods believes in bringing things full circle; one percent of retail sales are donated back to schools through the company’s ‘Feeding Good Fund’ which provides grants to schools who need equipment to serve freshly prepared meals to their students. Revolution Foods was listed in 2015 among Fast Company’s 50 Most Innovative Companies and was recently named by Fortune Magazine as “One of the 7 World Changing Companies to Watch”.
