University of California Selects Anthem Blue Cross to Administer PPO Plans for Faculty, Staff and Retirees

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.--()--Anthem Blue Cross has been selected by the University of California to administer medical and behavioral health benefits for its self-funded PPO plans offered to faculty members, staff, retirees and their families.

“Anthem Blue Cross is proud to provide UC members and their families access to affordable and quality healthcare, much of which will be from their own high quality system,” said Brian Ternan, president of Anthem Blue Cross. “The University of California and Anthem Blue Cross have been great partners over the years, and we hope to continue the relationship for many years to come.”

Effective Jan. 1, 2017, the three-year contract covers faculty and staff at all ten UC campuses, five academic medical centers, Lawrence Berkeley national lab and the UC Office of the President, as well as eligible retirees, and is expected to cover more than 80,000 PPO members (about one quarter of UC’s total membership).

In addition to traditional health services, members will have access to Anthem’s app-based telehealth solution LiveHealth Online and Web-based text chats with customer service representatives via Anthem Health Guide.
