AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--EverlyWell, a digital health startup transforming the consumer lab testing experience, launches today during Startup Battlefield at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, after gaining significant traction with nearly 1,500 paying customers in 45 states during its beta period which launched in May.
“At EverlyWell, our vision is to empower people with their own health information in order to live healthier and happier lives,” said Julia Cheek, CEO and Founder, EverlyWell. “We are honored to be selected by TechCrunch as part of this year’s Battlefield and are excited about this next phase of growth as we continue to expand our test menu and create a world-class customer experience.”
Personalized health is a $250B market today and growing 10% annually. Currently, this industry is dominated by direct-to-consumer genetic testing such as 23andMe, wearable technologies like FitBit, and telemedicine, where companies like Doctor on Demand are gaining market share. What’s missing from the conversation is lab testing, which is an important tool to reduce the risk of chronic disease.
EverlyWell provides at-home lab testing kits with beautifully redesigned results. The platform empowers consumers to order, self-collect, and understand their own physician-approved lab tests with the goal of improving health and reducing risk of future or chronic disease. They are the only company offering a suite of regulatory-compliant, physician-authorized lab tests that can be ordered and collected by consumers without leaving home.
“Consumers today want more information about their health without all the hassle of traditional lab testing. EverlyWell is meeting this demand and providing a growing number of tests, without ever having to make a single appointment,” said EverlyWell investor Halle Tecco, Founder of Rock Health and Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School. “They've proved their thesis with impressive early growth, and I'm so excited to watch them take off!"
The company launched in beta in May 2016, averaging 200% month-over-month growth. The customer base is 80% female and distributed in 45 states. Now, EverlyWell works with four certified partner labs, has six additional tests ready to launch, and has raised $3M in total funding to date.
Due to the level of medical and technical expertise needed for innovation in healthcare and lab testing, EverlyWell’s first hire was Dr. Murdoc Khaleghi, a practicing physician and expert on direct-to-consumer testing, and author of several books focused on prevention and wellness. “Throughout my career, I've seen so many people do what they thought was healthy and actually do more harm, in addition to wasting time and money,” said Dr. Khaleghi. “If people had the data to know what was truly impacting their bodies, they would be able to make better lifestyle, diet and fitness decisions. EverlyWell provides this feedback loop all in one seamless consumer experience.”
Lab testing is cumbersome, time-consuming and confusing. It’s an outdated process, and notably, specialty tests that are crucial to health management are often not covered by insurance (e.g., fertility hormones, weight management hormones, food sensitivity). With the growth of personalized, consumer-driven healthcare and the rise of out of pocket healthcare costs, the time is now to make lab testing consumer-friendly and transparent.
EverlyWell provides at-home lab testing kits with beautifully redesigned results. The platform empowers consumers to order, self-collect, and understand their own physician-approved lab tests with the goal of improving health and reducing risk of future or chronic disease. The reports are clear and easy to follow, and include evidence-based insights and suggestions. Consumers can choose from custom panels, including: Cardiovascular, Fertility and Women’s Hormones, Heavy Metals, Metabolism, Thyroid, Sleep & Stress, Food Sensitivity, Inflammation & Vitamin D. Prices start at $79 and are covered by Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. EverlyWell offers laboratory testing for wellness monitoring. The tests are not intended to diagnose or treat disease, or to substitute for a physician's consultation. Find out more at EverlyWell.com, or follow us on Facebook or Twitter.
