Silver Spring Networks Wins 2016 CTIA Emerging Technology Award For Industrial IoT

Silver Spring Networks’ Starfish™ Continues to Receive Industry Praise for Its Public Cloud IoT Network and Data Platform for Industrial IoT and Smart Cities Enablement

SAN JOSE, Calif.--()--Silver Spring Networks, Inc. (NYSE: SSNI) today announced that it has received top honors from the 2016 CTIA Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Awards in the Industrial IoT (IIoT) category for its public cloud IoT network and data platform – StarfishTM. The Starfish platform enables city departments, public lighting operators, highway and transportation administrations, utilities, and commercial enterprises to access a globally proven IoT network with near real-time telemetry, two-way command-and-control, and industrial-grade security.

As part of the IIoT category, Silver Spring competed against the likes of networks and services giant Nokia Corporation, wireless communications provider Comtech Telecommunications Corp., machine-to-machine company ORBCOMM Inc., and cloud-based IoT Software Defined Networking provider IoTium, Inc., beating out each of the four companies at last week’s CTIA Super Mobility 2016 Conference in Las Vegas. Silver Spring President and CEO, Mike Bell, was also a featured speaker at the show, taking part in a smart cities panel discussion alongside executives from Qualcomm Intelligent Solutions, Inc., AT&T Inc., and Verizon Communications Inc., where their discussion focused on understanding the infrastructure of IoT.

“It’s a privilege to be recognized by an organization as prestigious as CTIA and its panel of judges for our innovations in the IIoT,” said Mike Bell, President and CEO, Silver Spring Networks. “We take pride in Silver Spring’s ability to deliver more effective and efficient, secure connectivity for smart 'things' through our Starfish platform. We’re providing innovative technology to communities around the world to help increase efficiency, reduce resource consumption and costs, and deliver new services and revenue streams. To see Starfish honored by industry pundits affirms our vision.”

Celebrating its tenth year, the CTIA E-Tech Awards recognize cutting-edge mobile products and services for excellence in transforming networks, businesses, smart cities, connected consumers and government. Each year, a select few leading technology companies receive one of the industry’s highest honors from a panel of experts, media and analysts. This year’s categories included: “Everything Intelligent,” “Everything Industrial & Enterprise,” “Everything Smart Consumer,” and “Everything for Good,” to name a few. As part of the “Everything Industrial & Enterprise” category, the “Industrial IoT” award recognizes excellence in mobile business, software, IIoT, device management, security, privacy, and innovations driving smart cities and industrial connectivity.

Silver Spring has delivered more than 24.3 million IoT and IIoT-enabled devices to five continents, and is ramping up deployments of Starfish in major metropolitan areas including Bristol (UK), Chicago, Copenhagen, Glasgow, London, San Antonio, San Jose and in Kolkata, India.
