Southwest Power & Light Earns 5 Circle Score on Texas P.U.C. Official Complaint Scorecard (The Texas P.U.C.’s Highest Rating)

HOUSTON--()--Southwest Power and Light has earned the highest score possible (Five Circles) pursuant to the Texas Public Utility Commission’s Most Recent Retail Electric Provider Complaint Scorecard.

Southwest Power & Light’s Five Circle Score pertains to Complaint Rates for January 1, 2016 through June 30, 2016. The Texas P.U.C.’s Retail Electric Provider Complaint Scorecard scores REPs into five groupings of approximately equal size based on a 6-month rolling average of complaint rates per 1,000 customer relative to other companies.

According to the Scorecard, “You may wish to also review other resources regarding a REP's customer service such as your local Better Business Bureau.” Southwest Power & Light also continues to earn the highest rating at the Better Business Bureau, presently with an A+ from the BBB, on a scale of A+ to F, with the BBB’s rating based on 13 factors (For more information regarding the BBB, visit http://www.bbb.org/houston/business-reviews/electric-companies/southwest-power-and-light-in-houston-tx-90011467).

Southwest P&L To Issue Suggestions For Wise Electricity Use and Plan Selection

  1. Hunting, fishing and camping fans know the importance of trees to our way of life here in Texas and throughout North America. Well, trees can affect your electricity usage too. A couple well placed trees to shade your roof on the hottest part of the day can significantly reduce your electricity usage, while enhancing your landscape too. Consider deciduous trees, such as a San Felipe red maple (native to Houston), to allow sun onto the roof in the winter while giving you spectacular fall color during autumn.
  2. Whether a fan of hunting, camping or simply being outdoors, Southwest Power & Light’s unique plans offer direct positive impacts on our great outdoors. By choosing a Plant a Tree Plan, on an annual basis, for each customer on a Plant-A-Tree Plans℠, Southwest Power & Light will have at least 18 trees to be planted per year based on an average homeowner’s electricity usage in Texas (estimated to be 18,000 kWhs per year). Southwest Power & Light was the first REP to offer its Plant-A-Tree plans, which are administered pursuant to Southwest P&L’s partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation.
  3. Select fixed-rate plans and avoid gimmicks. Customers selecting fixed-price electricity plans, for example 24 months in duration, can obtain a more stable electricity rate. This protects from price swings in the market, leading to possibly more satisfaction relative to variable pricing plans, priced low initially but with rates jacked up when you may least expect it. And beware “free night” plans offered by some REPs; if doing the math, one may find it’s not worth paying almost twice the market rate when using the most usage (during the day) just to get some free energy during the evening. As the saying goes, “beware the free lunch”.
  4. Go with a retail electric provider with a reputation for customer service and solid complaint ratings from unbiased sources, such as, Southwest Power & Light believes, the Public Utility Commission Texas’s Scorecards.

According to the Texas P.U.C.’s Complaint Scorecard, “Significant changes in the complaint score may occur from month-to-month for smaller REPs based on only a few complaints. This complaint scorecard should be viewed as only one measure of the customer service provided by REPs. Please note the complaint score is based on a rolling 6-month average of the total number of informal complaints investigated, irrespective of whether or not the company was determined to be at fault or adequately resolved the customer's complaint.”
