SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Four California companies were honored by the California Product Stewardship Council (CPSC) for their innovative environmental efforts during the organization’s 7th Annual Arrow Awards ceremony. U-Haul International, Inc., Flame King, PaintCare, Inc., and Orchard Supply Hardware received statewide recognition respectively for overall excellence in product stewardship, system and design innovations, coalition building and product-take-back.
U-Haul International, Inc. was the recipient of the 2016 Golden Arrow Award for Overall Excellence in Product Stewardship. U-Haul is the industry leader in do-it-yourself moving and self-storage, as well as the country's leading retailer of propane for nearly 30 years. U-Haul joined CPSC’s award winning ReFuel Your Fun Campaign in June 2016, providing refillable one-pound propane cylinders sales and exchange at all 126 California U-Haul locations that offer propane services, which will result in significant greenhouse gas reductions by reusing steel instead of recycling.
Flame King received the 2016 Green Arrow Award for System and Design Innovations. Flame King designed a one-pound refillable propane cylinder that can be used for 12 years. These cylinders are widely used in camp stoves and many other products.
PaintCare, Inc. was the winner of the 2016 Bow & Arrow Award for Service and Take-Back. PaintCare is a non-profit organization that manages the California paint stewardship program, as well as programs in other states that have passed paint stewardship laws. Since starting the program in 2012, PaintCare has established 771 drop-off sites in California and has collected more than eight million gallons of paint.
Orchard Supply Hardware was presented with the 2016 Infinity Arrow Award for Service and Take-Back. Orchard Supply Hardware, a neighborhood hardware and garden store is a leader in taking back mercury thermostats, fluorescent lighting, batteries, paint and more.
The California Product Stewardship Council’s Annual Arrow Awards ceremony took place during the California Resource Recovery Association’s 40th annual conference and tradeshow, held at the DoubleTree hotel in Sacramento on Tuesday night.
