Porcelane, New Health Tech Startup, Delivers In-Home Dentistry to San Francisco Residents

Women-led startup combines dentistry and the new service economy to reimagine the dental experience with modern technologies built around the comfort of your home

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Today, Porcelane launches their mobile dentistry service to deliver dental care to living rooms and offices throughout San Francisco. The women-led startup provides online booking, 24/7 support, and 100% dentist time and attention to all patients—even for routine cleanings. The company’s proprietary dental suite fits snugly in the trunk of a car and allows Porcelane’s team of highly qualified dentists to deliver all the treatments of a traditional office in the comfort of home. And with expanded availability—including morning, evening, and weekend appointments—Porcelane makes it easy for people with demanding schedules to stay on top of their oral health.

“With Porcelane, it’s been exciting to take the user experience and design principles I learned at top-tier Silicon Valley companies and apply them to the entire patient experience—from booking to high-touch customer service to the dental appointment itself,” said Joyce Sohn, Porcelane’s CEO and Co-Founder. “As someone who’s always dreaded going to the dentist, I want to deliver not only convenience but also comfort and peace of mind. At Porcelane, we’re marrying modern technology with old-fashioned hospitality to make dental care a delightful experience.”

The team behind Porcelane is led by Sohn who has more than a decade of product leadership experience from Apple, Google, and Box. Her co-founder, Lily Sarafan, serves as Porcelane’s Executive Chairwoman and is CEO of Home Care Assistance, the largest consumer health company in the $100B in-home care industry with more than 6000 employees and 150 locations across North America.

“As CEO of Home Care Assistance, I know well the market potential and social impact at the intersection of healthcare and consumer services,” said Sarafan. “I’m passionate about transforming fragmented, outdated markets through innovation, talent, and scale. Joyce and the incredible team are ensuring that Porcelane is the best trip to the dentist you’ll never make.”

Porcelane eliminates the travel time, waiting time, idle time in the chair, and inevitable delays that can make a typical trip to the dentist take as long as three hours. Patients can expect a routine appointment to last no more than 60 minutes, spent entirely with the dentist, offering a one-on-one experience unmatched in traditional settings.

All Porcelane dentists are licensed, certified graduates of top-tier dental schools, and trained by Porcelane’s clinical leadership team led by Lisa Buda, DDS. A fluent Spanish speaker and an alumna of University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, Dr. Buda is a published expert and regular lecturer on oral health and dental care for special needs and medically compromised patients for the Alzheimer’s Association of America, Special Care Dental Association, California Pacific Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente Hospital, and numerous skilled nursing facilities.

Porcelane’s initial launch covers San Francisco, with the broader Bay Area launching in late 2016. Appointments can be booked for any private residence or office, and group appointments are also available. Routine care appointments, which include a dental exam, full cleaning and x-rays, cost $295 and can be booked online at www.porcelane.com.
