NEW YORK--()--JetBlue (NASDAQ: JBLU) today announced new service between Long Beach and several popular destinations as part of the airline’s latest move to expand its presence on the west coast. As JetBlue marks 15 years of service at Long Beach, the airline will add a 13th nonstop destination – San Jose. The airline will also increase flights on three popular routes – Las Vegas, San Francisco and Salt Lake City. JetBlue, which is already the largest airline at Long Beach, will offer more flights than ever before with up to 35 daily departures.

“We want to give our customers in Long Beach even more JetBlue love by offering our award-winning service on more routes to more destinations throughout the west,” said Dave Clark, vice president network planning, JetBlue. “Since landing in Long Beach in 2001, our customers have come to expect nothing but the best when they fly and we can’t wait to welcome them aboard these new flights.”

"It is terrific that JetBlue, Long Beach's largest airline, is adding more flights to its existing destinations of Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and San Francisco and even better that they are bringing back service to San Jose as they utilize all of their slots in Long Beach," said Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia.

New service between Long Beach Airport (LGB) and San Jose International Airport (SJC) will launch on January 4, 2017. JetBlue will operate four times daily service between the cities providing customers with convenient travel choices throughout the day, seven days per week. This new route will allow customers to take advantage of the comfort and convenience of Long Beach and the direct access San Jose offers to the Bay Area and businesses of Silicon Valley. To celebrate the launch of service between Long Beach and San Jose JetBlue is offering an introductory fare of $39 one-way (a).

"JetBlue has successfully served Mineta San Jose International Airport since 2004 with nonstop service to Boston and New York, and I am delighted to see our airline partner expand its presence in Silicon Valley by offering nonstop service to Southern California via Long Beach," said San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo. "JetBlue's growth in San Jose is an indication of the continued demand by residents and businesses seeking competitive fares, convenience and a world-class travel experience."

In addition to the new San Jose route, JetBlue is adding even more flights between Long Beach Airport and three cities it already serves nonstop. Beginning in November JetBlue will increase frequencies on routes between Long Beach and:

  • Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport (LAS) – three additional daily flights
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO) – one additional daily flight
  • Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) – one additional daily flight

Together, the new route and added frequencies will utilize all of JetBlue’s slots at Long Beach Airport and add nine new daily departures. The expansion is part of JetBlue’s broader strategy to grow its west coast presence and become the transcontinental airline of choice. The latest Long Beach news follows recent announcements to expand JetBlue’s successful Mint product and to amend its Airbus purchase agreement to bring additional Airbus A321 aircraft into the fleet – all of which are aimed at offering a better experience and more choices to west coast customers facing less competition.

In addition to today’s west coast expansion news, JetBlue also announced it is boosting service on an important east coast route. The airline will offer year-round service between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF). Currently JetBlue offers winter seasonal service between the two cities but when scheduled seasonal service begins later this year, flights will continue to operate daily on a regular year-round basis. The important link will further grow JetBlue’s south Florida focus city flight schedule and meet growing demand in the western New York area where JetBlue has operated since it began flying in 2000.

All new JetBlue flights announced today include assigned seating and will be operated on JetBlue's Airbus A320 aircraft offering the airline’s award-winning service, featuring the most legroom in coach (b); free Fly-Fi, the fastest broadband internet in the sky (c); complimentary and unlimited name-brand snacks and soft drinks; free, live DIRECTV® programming and 100 channels of SiriusXM® radio in every seatback.
