Fitbit Announces Adam Pellegrini as Vice President of Digital Health

Experienced health industry executive joins company to drive deeper integration of the Fitbit platform into healthcare systems

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Fitbit, Inc. (NYSE: FIT) today announced that Adam Pellegrini will join the company as Vice President of Digital Health, beginning September 6. Pellegrini will be responsible for leading Fitbit’s vision, strategies and programs to further drive the company’s integration into healthcare systems around the world. In this new role, Pellegrini will harness the power of Fitbit’s products, software and services to help create better clinical health outcomes while identifying new revenue opportunities for the company, building on the momentum Fitbit has had to date with disease management, insurance, and wellness programs.

Pellegrini brings more than 20 years of experience across multiple sectors of the healthcare industry including providers, insurers, health technology and non profits. He joins Fitbit from Walgreens Boots Alliance, where he was the Vice President of Digital Health, responsible for revolutionizing how the global chain approached omni-channel digital healthcare, including advancing the company’s integration with wearables, launching telemedicine and advancing their core digital pharmacy platforms. As part of his work with Walgreens, his team led the largest retail mHealth integration of more than 1 million connected devices and launched the company’s first integration of wearables – including Fitbit devices – with its Balance Rewards program, which rewards customers for making healthy choices.

“Over the past nine years, we’ve enabled millions of people around the world to lead healthier, more active lives by helping them to be more active, sleep better, eat smarter, and manage their weight. These are some of the very changes healthcare systems and disease management programs encourage people to make to help prevent or mitigate chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity,” said Woody Scal, Chief Business Officer of Fitbit. “Because of this, we believe that Fitbit can play a meaningful role in the digital health revolution, and Adam is the ideal person to lead our efforts. He brings tremendous experience, leadership and vision to help us further develop and integrate our tools into healthcare, including areas such as behavior change programs, chronic care management, population screening, precision medicine, and remote monitoring for post discharge and care transitions.”

Pellegrini is tasked with helping Fitbit connect its products, information, data and insights in new and innovative ways into clinical settings. He will also focus on developing new partnerships with healthcare systems, insurers and other payers, pharma companies and medical device manufacturers.

“Fitbit is uniquely positioned to help drive better health outcomes by incorporating its innovative technology, renowned brand and powerful engagement into clinical healthcare programs,” said Pellegrini. “I’m a passionate believer in the power of digital health technology to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and reach of our healthcare system. I see a tremendous opportunity for healthcare providers, health plans and pharmaceutical companies to foster a more proactive, consumer-centric approach to healthcare using Fitbit’s products, software, services and extraordinary health brand.”

Fitbit currently partners with leading health management systems and insurers and recently announced its technology is being used in more than 200 clinical studies on conditions ranging from breast cancer and diabetes to heart disease and surgical recovery.
