Travel: The Most Expensive Summer Destinations in the USA

NEW YORK--()--Saratoga Springs, located north of Albany in upstate New York, is the most expensive summer destination in the United States. That is the main takeaway of a recent survey conducted by CheapHotels.org.

The survey compared all U.S. destinations based on the minimum price travelers will have to spend to stay in their cheapest available double room, on average, during the month of August. It bears mentioning that only hotels or inns located in the center of each destination or close to the beach were taken into consideration by this survey. Establishments with less than an overall rating of 2 stars and with a negative average client evaluation were also excluded.

At an average nightly rate of $332 for its least expensive double room, Saratoga Springs sits on top of the rankings. Only a few dollars less expensive in the second and third positions are Nantucket, a small island located 30 miles south of Cape Cod in Massachusetts, and Montauk, the easternmost point of Long Island, New York.

California’s most expensive summer destination is Santa Monica, which ranks fourth most expensive overall. It is averaging an overnight rate of $271 this August for its most affordable double room. Calistoga and Beverly Hills round out the Top 10 at average per-night rates of $227 and $221, respectively.
