Cavalier Investments Hires Industry Veteran as New CIO

Scott Wetherington Joins Mutual Fund Firm to Oversee Manager-of-Managers Model

BRAINTREE, Mass.--()--Cavalier Investments, a mutual fund manager-of-managers, today announced the hiring of Scott Wetherington, for the new role of Chief Investment Officer, effective July 18. In addition to leading the research and investment teams in expanding and maintaining Cavalier’s high standards for identifying leading fund managers, Wetherington will also manage the new Tactical Economic strategy for the firm. Cavalier deploys an investment philosophy known as adaptive correlation, which means its portfolios are designed to be more dynamic and systematically turn on or off risk, based on market conditions.

“Scott’s decades of experience as a strategist, manager and analyst adds a diversity of perspectives that few in the industry can offer, and we are thrilled that he is joining our executive team,” said Gregory A. Rutherford, CFP, Chief Executive Officer, Cavalier Investments. “Scott’s proven commitment to rigorous research and exhaustive due diligence, and his defensive-first approach align with our aim to deliver relative returns in up markets, protect against losses in down markets, and minimize trading costs through all cycles.”

Wetherington’s extensive background in investment strategy and portfolio management greatly expands the firm’s capabilities and positions it for future growth. Prior to joining Cavalier, Wetherington served as senior portfolio manager and chief investment strategist for Lindner Capital Advisors from 2009 to 2016. At Lindner, Wetherington was responsible for the firm’s process and portfolio allocation models and lead the research and selection process for mutual funds and ETFs. Previously, Wetherington worked for ING Investment Management as a portfolio manager, overseeing active management of a multi-billion-dollar fixed income account.

“It is exciting to join Cavalier Investments during a time of significant growth for the firm,” said Wetherington. “Cavalier’s commitment to identifying best-in-breed managers for its funds is an approach that offers financial advisors a dynamic solution that is responsive to today’s changing market conditions. Cavalier’s approach is well suited for growth given that many financial advisors and individual investors alike have challenged the buy-and-hold approach and seek an alternative approach.”

Wetherington previously worked as an energy analyst at Mirant Incorporated and a liquidity manager and trader for an institutional money manager, Atlantic Portfolio Analytics and Management. Wetherington earned his B.B.A. in finance at James Madison University, and he also passed Level II of the CFA program. Wetherington lives in the Atlanta, Georgia area.
