USAID and NASA Award Tetra Tech Geospatial Technology Contract in West Africa

PASADENA, Calif.--()--Tetra Tech, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTEK) announced today the award of a $13-million, single-award contract from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to promote the use of geospatial technology to help strengthen the West African region’s resilience to climate change through the Global SERVIR program.

SERVIR is a joint initiative of USAID and NASA to partner with leading organizations in developing countries to harness the information provided by Earth-observing satellites and geospatial technologies for managing climate risks and land use. SERVIR West Africa is being implemented through the Agrometeorology, Hydrology, and Meteorology Regional Center (AGRHYMET), a specialized institution of the Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel.

Under the SERVIR West Africa contract, Tetra Tech will build the capacity of AGRHYMET and its consortium members to use satellite imagery to help the countries in the western region of Africa reduce the negative impacts of climate change, ensure sustainable land use management, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. West Africa will become the fourth hub in the Global SERVIR network, which includes Eastern and Southern Africa, the Hindu-Kush Himalaya region in Central Asia, and the Mekong River Basin in Southeast Asia.

Through the SERVIR platform, AGRHYMET, with support from Tetra Tech, will train key decision makers on how to effectively use publicly available satellite imagery and interpret geospatial data to make more informed decisions in four areas: food security and agriculture; water and disasters; weather and climate; and land use, coastal zones, and forest management. Tetra Tech will also promote collaboration among technical institutions in the West African region, leveraging their respective strengths and increasing their capacity to use the data.

“Tetra Tech is pleased to support USAID and NASA in providing innovative, technology-focused solutions to address the impacts of climate change around the world,” said Dan Batrack, Tetra Tech’s Chairman and CEO.
