PPG Works with HUMANITARIUM Science Centre in Poland to Sponsor Interactive ‘Laboratory of Colours’

Hands-on children’s exhibit is first of many planned joint efforts

PITTSBURGH--()--PPG (NYSE: PPG) is sponsoring the new interactive “PPG Laboratory of Colours” at the HUMANITARIUM science centre in Wroclaw, Poland. The permanent exhibit is the first of many collaboration projects planned by PPG and the science centre, all of which will aim to engage children and nurture their interest in science and technology. PPG and its global grant-making program contributed $30,000 to bring the hands-on exhibit to life.

The PPG Laboratory of Colours exhibit, which opened in April, uses various resources to help children explore and understand the science behind colour. They can create 3D pictures with “puffy paints” they make themselves, and learn how to mix colours by combining virtual paints on a screen and using them to paint an animated room. A 3D rainbow also helps children make the colour connection between water and sunlight diffraction.

“The HUMANITARIUM offers children a place to explore the world through the lens of science,” said Andrzej Zygadlo, PPG director, human resources, architectural coatings, Poland. “Its mission truly complements PPG’s ongoing commitment to invest in science and technology education. This is an ideal partnership that will help children in primary and secondary school foster their love of science. At the same time, PPG will have a unique opportunity to promote its brand and business.”

PPG and the HUMANITARIUM plan to unveil an outdoor exhibit this fall to show how weather affects protected and unprotected surfaces, including wood, metal and concrete structures. The PPG architectural coatings research and development team in Wroclaw is also working with science centre animators to develop additional interactive workshops for students.

PPG and the PPG Foundation aim to bring colour and brightness to PPG communities around the world. We donated more than $7.8 million in 2015 to hundreds of community organizations across 20 countries. By investing in educational opportunities, we help grow today’s skilled workforce and develop tomorrow’s innovators in industries related to coatings and specialty materials. Plus, we empower PPG employees to make an impact for causes that are important to them by supporting their volunteer efforts and charitable giving.
