SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SYSTRAN Software, a global 48-year-old language translation technology company, is sponsoring the World Trade Center San Diego Go Global Initiative and the MetroConnect Prize Program.
The Go Global Initiative seeks to maximize San Diego’s economic competitiveness and prosperity through increased global engagement. SYSTRAN Software, with U.S. headquarters in San Diego, is supporting the Go Global Initiative by enabling San Diego-based enterprises to communicate in multiple languages across industries, particularly within data flow and digital services.
Traditional global trade and finance are flattening. However, data flow, which is anything from Internet-based communications and platforms that bring buyers and sellers together, to cross-border financial transactions and downloading of goods and services, continues to grow. In fact, data flow across borders has outpaced other forms of trade by 45x from 2005 to 2014, according to the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation (EDC). This increase of digital data across the world requires real-time multilingual translation to empower international teams as they exchange information across time zones.
“We are truly in an era of digital globalization with easy-to-access data and vast exchanges of free content and digital services. Smaller enterprises can be more competitive due to the ease at which they can access data from around the world within seconds,” said Ken Behan, vice president of sales and marketing for SYSTRAN Software “The challenge lies in the ability to understand this data if you don’t speak the language it was created in. SYSTRAN’s API Systran.io levels the playing field for small- and medium-sized enterprises that want to participate in the global economy.”
The MetroConnect Prize is the flagship program of the Go Global San Diego Initiative that provides small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) the resources they need to engage in global markets.
MetroConnect provides 15 San Diego companies with $10,000 each to fund up to 50 percent of the costs associated with increasing their presence abroad. Four companies will also be invited to compete for a grand prize of up to $50,000 in late 2016.
Alongside San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, World Trade Center San Diego will announce the 2016 MetroConnect winners in conjunction with a Global Services Expo on June 30. Register here.
“SYSTRAN’s technology is an important tool for our MetroConnect Prize recipients as they look to expand globally. Using SYSTRAN’s language translation API – enabling real-time multilingual translation – San Diego-based SMEs have the capacity to communicate in global markets,” said Nikia Clarke, director of World Trade Center San Diego. “The success of these firms is critical to San Diego’s future, and we’re thankful for SYSTRAN’s investment in San Diego’s global expansion efforts.”
SYSTRAN was recently in the news as it opened its language intelligence technology to multi-national companies of all sizes with a cloud-based application program interface (API) – SYSTRAN.io. The API allows 1 million characters to be translated free each month. Details here: www.systran.io.
SYSTRAN.io is based on the same language translation technology that powers SYSTRAN’s enterprise offering used by Symantec, Cisco, Airbus, Ford, Toyota, BNP Paribas, Daimler, Barclays, defense and security organizations such as the U.S. intelligence community, NATO, Interpol and language service providers.
Millions of users around the world interface with SYSTRAN multi-lingual technology daily. Platform customers include ADP, Adobe, and Apple, which integrates a language translation widget on the dashboard of its MacBook.
