MINTED LAUNCHES SAN FRANCISCO POP-UP, MINTED LOCAL

First-Ever Store Highlights Works and Process of Independent Designers

Minted, the global marketplace of independent artists known for the quality of its curated designs, today opened its first brick-and-mortar store, Minted Local. Minted Local celebrates and brings to life the company's mission to enable the creative independence of consumers and artists alike. The pop-up, located at 222 Grant Avenue in San Francisco’s Union Square shopping district, will be open through October 2016 and feature art, home goods, and stationery from Minted’s community of independent artists and designers, with a strong focus on the work of regional California artists, including original art and one-of-a-kind decorative items for the first time in Minted’s history.

“Our crowdsourcing process -- sourcing from independent artists and allowing people to vote to tell us what to sell -- allows us to surface the best, freshest, and most unique art and design in the world,” says Mariam Naficy, Founder & CEO of Minted. “Now, we bring our consumers closer to these works and the process of creating them with quality.”

Minted Local features experiences that connect consumers with independent artists: workshops, artists in residence, styling services by appointment, as well as interactive crafts and complimentary mementos to keep children entertained during a shopping trip. Naficy and interior designer Kendall Ermshar -- the same team that designed Minted’s well-received offices in the Jackson Square neighborhood of San Francisco -- have personally designed the store.

Minted announced its entry into home decor in August last year, sourcing textile designs from independent artists around the world and manufacturing them on-demand into high-quality home goods when consumers place orders. Minted’s store allows customers to touch and see pillows, table linens, curtains, and other Minted home decor products. Art from independent artists, including signed limited edition prints and custom children’s art, is hung against innovative library walls. Digital displays show the high degree of customization available with Minted art including colorways, name personalization, and framing.

Minted Local will be a place where Minted can test exclusive products not available online, including collaborations with San Francisco makers, original art, and bespoke home decor goods, such as children's teepees and upholstered furniture, utilizing unique fabric patterns sourced from Minted’s community of independent artists.

A hand-operated letterpress has been installed in the window of Minted Local to allow passersby to watch the centuries-old craft. Shoppers and their children will be able to learn first-hand about the printing process and receive a complimentary custom art print letterpressed with their name. The other window features an interactive space where children can play while their parents shop and enjoy an espresso.

Stylist Bar

Minted Local features the Stylist Bar where customers can make appointments to receive Minted’s expert help with styling art walls and home decor, as well as work with Minted designers to craft the perfect holiday cards, birth announcements, and more. Couples will be able to meet one-on-one with a Minted wedding stylist to design their invitations and even reception décor, bringing their unique wedding vision to life. Appointments can be made online starting June 6 at www.minted.com.

Every Mother Counts

During the first week, 50 percent of all sales at Minted Local will benefit Every Mother Counts, a non-profit organization, founded by Christy Turlington Burns, dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safer for every mother, everywhere.

Minted Local is located at 222 Grant Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94108. Open Monday through Saturday from 10am - 7pm and Sunday from 11am - 5pm. Or visit Minted online at www.minted.com.

About Minted

Founded in 2007 and headquartered in San Francisco, California, Minted is a design marketplace that connects you to the world’s best independent artists to create something one-of-a-kind. Minted’s unique crowdsourced model represents a modern marketplace – one where the community decides what goods are showcased and sold. This model ensures fresh, on-trend designs are continuously being added to Minted. Minted enables artists, designers and photographers around the world to create original work, then provides them with an operations platform that handles all fulfillment and customer service. This leaves creatives to do what they do best, while letting Minted do the rest. The company – which began in stationery, has expanded its crowdsourcing model into wall art (2012), textiles (2014), digital content (2015) and most recently home decor (Summer 2015). Minted has raised $90M since launching in 2007 and is funded by Benchmark Capital, IDG Ventures, Menlo Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners, Technology Crossover Ventures as well as angel investors. www.minted.com.
