Greer Woodruff of J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. Recognized by Truck Safety Coalition for Long-Term Commitment to Industry-Leading Safety

LOWELL, Ark.--()--Greer Woodruff, Senior Vice President of Safety, Security, and Driver Personnel at J.B. Hunt, was awarded the Truck Safety Coalition’s (TSC) Distinguished Safety Leadership Award during the Underride Roundtable at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s testing facility in Ruckersville, Virginia.

TSC is made up of Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways (CRASH) and Parents Against Tired Truckers (PATT). Dedicated to reducing the number of deaths and injuries caused by truck-related crashes, TSC provides compassionate support to truck crash survivors and the families of truck crash victims. TSC also educates public policy-makers and media about truck safety issues.

Received by Woodruff, the award recognizes his outstanding and longtime dedication to improving truck safety. John Lannen, Executive Director of the TSC, praised Woodruff for his own personal commitment to promoting safe driving and advancing truck safety throughout his 28-year career with J.B. Hunt. However, Woodruff was quick to credit J.B. Hunt employees for the success. “None of this would be possible without our employees, especially our drivers, who put their knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes into practice each day. They are the ones who embrace our safety culture and execute our strategies daily,” Woodruff explained.

J.B. Hunt has a longstanding history of safety best practices, proven processes and technology, compliance with government regulations, and ongoing research and analysis. In addition to making early contributions to the use of real-time telematics supervision of driving behaviors and enhanced drug-testing procedures, TSC praised the company for setting yet another industry example with its recent forward-thinking purchase of 4,000 Wabash trailers. The trailers feature enhanced rear underride protections engineered to help prevent underride crashes at higher impact speeds and various overlap percentages.

“J.B. Hunt is one of the first companies to adopt this new protection for their trucks. Implementing stronger rear guards to reduce truck crash injuries and deaths will serve as a leading example for the industry,” explained Lannen. "I applaud Mr. Woodruff and his team for their tireless efforts to help eliminate crashes involving J.B. Hunt drivers and equipment."

“It’s an honor to be recognized by TSC for our commitment to making our industry safer. Safety is the highest priority at J.B. Hunt. We do everything possible to ensure we have the safest drivers and equipment on the road,” noted Woodruff. “It’s a big accomplishment for each and every one of us to have researchers, safety advocates, government officials, and industry leaders recognize the work we’ve done and continue to do. It also drives us to keep at it.”
