WASHINGTON--()--Cigna is the lead sponsor of The Washington Post’s upcoming Coffee@WaPo event, “Addiction in America.” This forum will convene policymakers, thought leaders, government officials, advocacy experts and others to discuss the increasing drug epidemic in the United States and what can be done about it. The event will be held on May 4 from 9 to 11 a.m. ET at The Washington Post’s headquarters, and will feature remarks by David M. Cordani, Cigna president and CEO. For more information on speakers and agenda, and to watch the forum live, please go here.

This forum will shine a spotlight on how the nation can curb the rising drug epidemic in the United States. By 2020, mental and substance use disorders will have surpassed all physical diseases as a major cause of disability worldwide.1 In the United States, an estimated 2.1 million people suffer from substance use disorders related to prescription opioid pain relievers, and more than 28,000 Americans die each year from opioid overdoses.2, 3

Cigna is committed to being a national leader on modernizing the approach to the prevention, treatment and communication of substance use disorders – one that begins with eliminating the stigma associated with substance use so that people will seek the help they need – and recognizes that for many, substance use disorder is a chronic disease.

Real-time social coverage of the event will be shared via Cigna’s and The Washington Post’s social channels, at @Cigna and @PostLive, using the hashtag #CoffeeAtWaPo.
