DPR Construction Supports OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction

U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) designates May 2-6 for the third annual Stand-Down to promote fall hazard prevention and education in the construction industry.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--()--As falls from elevations continue to be the No. 1 cause of construction fatalities (OSHA), DPR Construction (DPR), one of the nation’s leading technical builders focused on highly complex and sustainable projects, affirms its commitment to and culture of safety through participation in OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down.

Today DPR’s offices and jobsites across the country are participating in Stand-Down initiatives, including safety discussions and trainings aimed to raise awareness of preventing fall hazards.

“Safety is a value at DPR, and we are committed to creating injury-free environments so every single employee can return safely home to his or her family each night,” said Joel Becks, safety champion for DPR in Redwood City. “During last year’s Stand-Down, we reached 6,670 workers across the country, and this year, aim to educate even more awareness for this important initiative among our employees and jobsite teams.”

DPR’s goal is to create an Injury-Free Environment (IFE), with zero incidents on every project. DPR approaches safety as a value and focuses on in-depth training that instills and encourages safe behaviors throughout the company and every project team, including owners, architects and subcontractors. Over the last five years, DPR’s OSHA recordable incident rate averaged 1.09, based on more than 27 million total hours worked, making DPR one of the safest contractors in the country.

In 2015, OSHA’s Stand-Down reached more than 2.5 million workers. This year, the agency’s goal is to reach 5 million workers.
