QD Vision Dismisses Nanosys’ Lawsuit as Meritless

LEXINGTON, Mass.--()--QD Vision, a technology and market leader in the rapidly-growing quantum dot display market, has dismissed Nanosys’ recent legal action as an attempt to slow down the Company’s legitimate progress with an improper lawsuit.

QD Vision is an early innovator in the quantum dot industry, launched in 2004 with initial funding from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. QD Vision owns more than 180 patents and patent applications and is licensed to use more than 100 patents and patent applications from MIT. The company’s well-known and highly-regarded Color IQ™ edge-optic solution has been used successfully in more than a million displays worldwide since 2013. QD Vision has been recognized for its commitment to sustainable innovation in 2014 by the Obama Administration with the EPA’s Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award and, more recently, named by the venture capital industry as a Global Cleantech 100 “Under the Radar” list.

Color IQ edge-optic solutions are the most widely-used quantum dot solutions in the market and used in some of the display industry’s most innovative products, including:

  • Sony Bravia XBR-X900A series; the world’s first commercial quantum dot televisions
  • TCL 9700; the world’s first commercial television with 110 percent NTSC color gamut coverage
  • Philips 276E6A; the world’s first quantum dot monitor
  • Hisense K7100; the world’s best-selling 55” curved quantum dot television.

QD Vision’s quantum dots are praised by many as the “best dots in the industry.” The Color IQ quantum dot optic solution was honored as a CES 2016 Innovation Award winner in January of this year. Color IQ has been the choice of more breakthrough products and leading brands than any other quantum dot solution in the market today.

“We believe Nanosys’ claims are entirely without merit,” said Mustafa Ozgen, QD Vision president and chief executive officer. “It’s apparent from multiple misstatements that our competitor is feeling threatened by our success in the market and using this improper lawsuit to try to slow our legitimate progress. We at QD Vision are very proud of our rapidly-growing portfolio of IP, products and customers. We intend to defend ourselves and our technology vigorously.”

Quantum dots are light-emitting semiconductor crystals that can create highly saturated colors which work together to enable televisions and monitors to display the widest range of on-screen colors possible. Because of their unique light downshifting capabilities, quantum dots are the most energy-efficient color-conversion material in the industry.
