eQHealth Solutions Selected to Administer the Senior Medicare Patrol Programs for Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida

BATON ROUGE, La.--()--eQHealth Solutions, a population health management company providing technology solutions and medical management services, is proud to announce that it has been awarded a three-year Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) grant by the Administration for Community Living (ACL) for the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida. eQHealth Solutions has held the Louisiana SMP grant since 2009 and will continue to oversee Louisiana’s program in addition to the two new states.

The SMP initiative was established by federal law in 1997, and ACL is responsible for program oversight. The SMP program’s mission is to empower Medicare beneficiaries to prevent healthcare fraud through outreach, counseling and education. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) estimates that Medicare loses billions of dollars each year due to errors, fraud and abuse. SMP actively works to disseminate fraud prevention information through the media, outreach campaigns, community events and by working with Medicare beneficiaries. The National SMP message, “Protect, Detect & Report,” is communicated throughout the three states by eQHealth staff and volunteer groups, who are the backbone of the project.

“We are honored to partner with the Administration for Community Living and the Department of Health and Human Services to help bring knowledge and awareness to the Medicare population. In the past, we have had great success in the state of Louisiana serving on the front lines to help detect fraud and educate our senior population and will bring the same level of enthusiasm and energy to the SMP work we execute in Mississippi and Florida,” said Edie Castello, President and CEO of eQHealth Solutions.

“I have not seen a higher level of organization and professionalism. The staff showed extensive use of data whereby they analyzed needs and devised work plans to meet those needs. The special attention given to low-literacy Medicare beneficiaries shows great awareness and sensitivity to the vulnerabilities of a targeted population. I am also greatly impressed with the organization, management and care provided to the project’s volunteers who provide essential training to the beneficiaries. The SMP team is highly motivated and professional, and I commend them for their top-notch work,” stated Derek Lee, Project Officer at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services regarding the Louisiana SMP program.
