The Estée Lauder Companies Announces Leadership Appointments

NEW YORK--()--The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. (NYSE:EL) today announced the following leadership updates:

  • Ivan Fernandez, President, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), has announced plans to retire from his position, effective August 31, 2016. Mr. Fernandez will support his successor’s transition through October 31, 2016.
  • Succeeding Ivan Fernandez is Peter Jueptner, who has been appointed President, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), effective September 1, 2016. Mr. Jueptner will report to Cedric Prouvé, Group President, International.
  • Stephane de la Faverie has been appointed Global Brand President, Estée Lauder, effective July 1, 2016. He will continue to report to Jane Hertzmark Hudis, Group President.
  • Nancy Mahon has been appointed Senior Vice President, Global Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability, effective April 15, 2016. She will continue to report to William P. Lauder, Executive Chairman, and will add a reporting line to Fabrizio Freda, President and Chief Executive Officer. She will continue to report to John Demsey, Chairman, M·A·C AIDS Fund, for her M·A·C AIDS Fund responsibilities.
  • Maria Cristina González Noguera has been appointed Senior Vice President, Global Public Affairs, effective July 1, 2016. She will report to William P. Lauder, Executive Chairman, and Fabrizio Freda, President and Chief Executive Officer.

The advance notice of these appointments is in line with the Company’s standard practice, which is designed to ensure a smooth transition of roles and responsibilities.

Ivan Fernandez, President, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), to retire from his position

After a distinguished 25-year career with the Company, Ivan Fernandez, President, EMEA, has announced plans to retire from his position, effective August 31, 2016. Mr. Fernandez’s extensive career with the Company includes a variety of leadership roles spanning brands, geographies and channels. Mr. Fernandez was named President, EMEA in 2008 upon the creation of the role, and he has since demonstrated outstanding commitment to growing the region’s profitability, evolving the regional business model and developing local talent. Under his leadership, the region has achieved consistent growth ahead of the industry, ultimately becoming one of the Company’s fastest-growing regions today. His numerous contributions to the Company throughout his tenure have been both far-reaching and instrumental to the Company’s continued growth and expansion across brands and markets.

Peter Jueptner appointed President, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA)

As Executive Vice President, Strategy, New Business Development and Transformation Initiatives, Peter Jueptner is uniquely qualified to expand upon Ivan Fernandez’s successful leadership of EMEA. Since 2009, Mr. Jueptner has worked alongside Fabrizio Freda in the development and execution of the Company’s strategy, which has delivered record results including consistent top-line growth ahead of the prestige beauty industry. Additionally, he has played a key role in continuing to strengthen and expand the Company’s portfolio, overseeing six acquisitions since 2010, including Smashbox. As the leader of the Company’s strategic initiatives, Mr. Jueptner has been at the forefront of industry insights, trends and the biggest opportunities critical to the long-term growth of the Company. His solid leadership capabilities, coupled with his brand, retail and operational expertise, make him ideally suited to further develop the Company’s strong position in EMEA. A successor for Mr. Jueptner’s current role will be announced soon.

Stephane de la Faverie appointed Global Brand President, Estée Lauder

With a proven track record of building and leading global brands, deep expertise across categories and channels, and a keen understanding of local relevance, Stephane de la Faverie is the ideal leader to strengthen the Company’s namesake brand for its next stage of growth. Since April 2014, Mr. de la Faverie has led Origins and Darphin, most recently in the role of Global Brand President. During this time, he led Origins’ rapid double-digit growth in China, while simultaneously invigorating the brand’s footprint in heritage markets such as North America through innovative retail capabilities. Additionally, he has spearheaded Darphin’s trend leadership, ultimately securing the brand’s position as a skin care opinion leader in the fast-growing oil category. Prior to this, Mr. de la Faverie played a leadership role on the Company’s fragrance portfolio as Senior Vice President/Global General Manager, Aramis and Designer Fragrances. This appointment builds upon the successful leadership of the Estée Lauder brand by Jane Hertzmark Hudis, Group President, and will further enable her to focus on the strategic direction of her brand portfolio and her other significant leadership responsibilities. A successor for Mr. de la Faverie’s current role will be announced soon.

Nancy Mahon appointed Senior Vice President, Global Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability

Nancy Mahon will continue leading the Company’s Corporate Citizenship and Global Philanthropy efforts, adding the critical area of sustainability to her responsibilities. In this new role, Ms. Mahon will work alongside function leads to further strengthen the Company’s sustainability vision and strategy while continuing to optimize citizenship and purpose-driven programs for the Company and its brands. During Ms. Mahon’s decade-long tenure at the Company, she has helped build and grow world-renowned impactful cause initiatives including the M·A·C AIDS Fund, the Jo Malone Garden Trust and the Company’s “Good Works” matching program. Her unique approach to drive global impact while advancing the business, as demonstrated by her work with many brand-cause initiatives, will be greatly leveraged as she continues to strengthen the Company’s sustainability efforts. Ms. Mahon also serves as Chair of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS, a position to which she was appointed by President Obama in 2011.

Maria Cristina González Noguera appointed Senior Vice President, Global Public Affairs

The Estée Lauder Companies welcomes the return of Maria Cristina “MC” González Noguera as Senior Vice President, Global Public Affairs. In this new role, Ms. González Noguera will be responsible for strengthening the Company’s Public Affairs and Global Government Relations strategies to continue protecting and advancing the interests of the Company and building key relationships across the globe. Ms. González Noguera brings a wealth of global private and public-sector expertise in public policy, media relations and issues management. From June 2013 to May 2015, Ms. González Noguera was Special Assistant to the President and the Director of Communications to First Lady Michelle Obama, where she was responsible for shaping long-term strategic planning and message development for the First Lady. Prior to then, Ms. González Noguera was a Vice President in Corporate Communications at The Estée Lauder Companies for more than eight years. Earlier in her career, Ms. González Noguera was a Managing Director at the Washington, D.C. firm Chlopak, Leonard, Schechter & Associates where she managed communications and issue-oriented campaigns for a variety of clients.
