Hurricane Electric Rounds Out Baltic State Expansion with New Point of Presence in Estonia

Largest IPv6-native Internet backbone will provide area with high speed IP transit, low latency and fewer router hops

TALLINN, Estonia--()--Hurricane Electric, the world’s largest IPv6-native Internet backbone, continues to expand its global network with the opening of its latest Point of Presence (PoP) in northern Europe at Elion / Eesti Telekom, located at Sole 14, 10611 Tallinn, Estonia.

Hurricane Electric’s move into Estonia comes at a pivotal time as the country’s bourgeoning tech sector and start-up community is flourishing. Recently, the country implemented an E-Citizenship program and according to reports, Estonia is launching a new government fund which will provide €60 million to help support start-ups in Tallinn.

With the launch of this new Point of Presence, customers of Elion / Eesti Telekom will now have the opportunity to exchange IP traffic, or “peer,” with Hurricane Electric’s robust global network. The new PoP will also provide access to Hurricane Electric’s IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE (100 Gigabit Ethernet), 10GE (10 Gigabit Ethernet) and GigE (1 Gigabit Ethernet) ports.

“We are thrilled to continue our expansion in the Baltic region, which has seen impressive growth in the tech sector over the last several years,” said Mike Leber, President, Hurricane Electric. “As a result, there is now a strong demand for reliable and high-speed IP transit in the area. Thanks to this new PoP, customers of Elion / Eesti Telekom now have access to our rich global network and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), helping them identify the shortest path for reduced network hops and faster traffic delivery.”

Last month, Hurricane Electric made history as the first network in the world to connect to over 5,000 IPv4 Networks, establishing itself as the most connected IPv4 network in addition to its position as the most connected IPv6 network.
