Grossman Burn Centers to Open New Bakersfield, CA Burn Center

New Facility at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Will Replace the Former Grossman Burn Center at San Joaquin Community Hospital

LOS ANGELES--()--The Grossman Burn Centers (“GBC”) have finalized a deal with Dignity Health to establish a new, state-of-the-art burn unit at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield, CA. GBC formerly operated a burn center in Bakersfield at San Joaquin Community Hospital.

The Grossman Burn Center at Memorial Hospital will be larger than the San Joaquin Community center and it will offer expanded services including, catastrophic burn care, pediatric intensive care burn services and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

GBC President and Medical Director Dr. Peter H. Grossman, M.D., FACS commented, “With the establishment of the new Grossman Burn Center at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital we are seeking to strengthen our commitment to the Bakersfield community and the surrounding region. By building out a larger burn unit that offers more comprehensive burn care services, we can treat more patients locally and reduce the need to transfer cases to hospitals outside of Bakersfield. I am excited to partner with Dignity Health on this important new venture.”

Jon Van Boening, President and Chief Executive Officer of Memorial Hospital, stated, “With our full-range of adult surgical and intensive care services, and our continued expansion of the Lauren Small Children’s Medical Center, we will now be able to treat burn patients of any age and acuity. The Grossman Burn Centers have proven their commitment to Kern County and are a valuable resource and asset in this market. We are thrilled to partner with one of the industry’s most successful and trusted surgical pioneers.”

The new facility at Memorial Hospital will be the ninth burn center opened by GBC. The company is in talks with several potential hospital partners to open additional Grossman Burn Centers around the country and internationally.

Dr. Grossman stated, “At the Grossman Burn Centers we have long taken pride in providing high quality, innovative surgical burn care at the centers we have owned or managed throughout the western United States, but our business and our brand is evolving. Now we are expanding our portfolio of services to include the design and build-out of Grossman Burn Centers that will be independent, self-sustaining, and value-added to hospital business models.”

GBC’s focus on restoring patients to as close to their pre-injury status as possible—functionally, cosmetically, and emotionally— distinguishes it from other burn centers that focus primarily on patient survival. This distinction, coupled with a surgical track record and reputation that is among the best in its field, has made GBC a global destination for high profile, high risk burn injuries and it frequently results in local emergency room transfers and referrals from neighboring hospitals.

About the Grossman Burn Centers:

The Grossman Burn Centers are renowned for their expertise in establishing plastic surgery-based burn units within existing hospitals that lack burn care resources and infrastructure. In some cases, GBC will continue to manage burn units after they open, but its new, primary role is as a design consultant, managing the build-out of a burn center, implementing policies and procedures, and training professional and administrative staff. In addition to its main facility in Los Angeles, CA, GBC has designed and built burn centers in Orange County, CA, Bakersfield, CA, Kansas City, MO, Phoenix, AZ, and Lafayette, LA.
