Pegaso Banda Ancha Takes Just Four Months to Install More than 5,000 Sites Throughout Mexico

PBA Delivers Satellite Technology to Bring Broadband Internet to Rural Communities as Part of the Mexican Government’s Connected Mexico Initiative

MEXICO CITY--()--Mexican Internet service provider (ISP), Pegaso Banda Ancha (PBA), announced completion of installation of more than 5,000 VSATs for Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT) initiative, Connected Mexico. Committed to providing broadband and wifi connectivity to schools, health centers, community facilities, and government offices in rural and remote areas, Connected Mexico strives to ensure that 26 million Mexicans with little or no broadband access have high-speed connections to the Internet.

PBA took just four months to install 5,062 extremely remote sites at 362 locations in 29 states. Using the SCT’s Bicentario satellite, MEXSAT3, and a high-throughput gateway at its Toluca, Mexico, network operations center (NOC), this gateway not only supports Ku and C-band satellites, but is future proofed for next-generation, Ka-band high-performance satellites.

“We were honored with the task of bringing high-speed Internet to rural Mexico in support of the initiative to ensure all Mexicans receive the benefits of broadband access to information that could help change their lives,” said Javier Braun Burillo, COO, Grupo Pegaso. “With almost 20-years experience installing distributed satellite networks for government and commercial entities, our past performance ensured a fast and efficient rollout for this important initiative.”

Rural communities will benefit tremendously from this SCT network as it will provide a variety of high-speed applications including Internet connectivity, distance learning, VoIP, telemedicine, and content delivery. Using the latest satellite-gateway technology, which provides industry-leading bandwidth efficiency and performance and uses high-throughput terminals at customer sites, PBA ensures premium service and capacity. Designed for both conventional Ku- and C-band satellites and Ka-band satellites, PBA provides its customers an easy migration path to the next-generation high-throughput satellites.
