Embarcadero Delphi is Named Developer Language of Choice for South African High School Students

Leading Educational Programs Prepare Future Developers For Success

AUSTIN, Texas--()--Embarcadero Technologies (recently acquired by IDERA), a leading provider of software solutions for application development, today announced that its Delphi development tool is now the exclusive choice of South African high schools for introductory computer science curriculum.

Last week, Embarcadero presented the first Annual Education Award to South African school districts for achieving a high level of success with their technology programs. The event included student presentations of their completed applications written in Delphi using Embarcadero’s RAD Studio.

Embarcadero’s program in South Africa is part of a commitment to support computer education initiatives worldwide, providing students hands-on experience with tried-and-true development tools that provide the perfect foundation for a career in software development.

Working directly with local MVPs and partners, educators receive educational materials and free versions of Embarcadero’s award-winning software for use in high schools and colleges. The program has achieved significant success in EMEA, APAC and LATAM.

“We are very pleased with our choice of Delphi and Embarcadero's tools to support high school computer education,” said Carina Labuscagne, Chief Education Specialist: CAT and IT, of South Africa’s Ministry of Education. “Delphi is a great language that helps our students not only learn programming, but also extend their analytical skills for many other subjects. For us, the ability to standardize on a consistent, compatible platform that utilizes a higher language and is easy to learn, is critical. We hope that Embarcadero continues to evolve their tools to support our ongoing needs.”

The elegance and simplicity of the Delphi computer language and the robustness of Embarcadero’s RAD Studio were the key factors driving the South African Ministry of Education’s selection.

Delphi, the most modern evolution of Object Pascal, is used today by hundreds of thousands of developers globally. Unlike web-focused languages, Delphi helps develop algorithmic thinking with relative ease -- a critical skill in computer education. The syntax of the language, in addition to the simple and intuitive way its constructs are implemented, makes Delphi especially appropriate as the first high-level programming language students are exposed to.

“This is an especially proud moment for us at Embarcadero. We will continue to build on this success that promotes Delphi and computer education,” said Atanas Popov, general manager at Embarcadero, who was present to give the awards.
