JetBlue Continues Expansion in Latin America with Launch of Flights to Ecuador

New Quito Route Further Grows South Florida Focus City

NEW YORK--()--JetBlue (NASDAQ: JBLU) today announced the start of service to its newest destination Quito, Ecuador. It is the only airline to operate daily flights between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Quito’s Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO). Ecuador becomes the 22nd country served by JetBlue, which operates nearly a third of its capacity in the Caribbean and Latin America.

“Quito is one of the fastest growing destinations in Latin America and a world-class tourism destination. We are thrilled to bring our award-winning service and low fares to this underserved market,” said Dave Clark, vice president network planning at JetBlue. "It also furthers our growth in Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood where JetBlue will soon offer more than 100 daily flights to destinations across our network. Whether travelers are coming from South Florida, the northeast or the west coast, it’s never been easier to visit Ecuador’s historic capital city.”

Situated more than 9,000 feet above sea level in the Andes Mountains, Quito is set against a beautiful and scenic backdrop and features one of the least-altered, best-preserved historic centers in the world. Declared one of the first World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1978, the city is home to various museums, picturesque plazas and impressive architecture.

Quito’s Mariscal Sucre International Airport is the busiest in Ecuador and serves more than five million travelers per year. The state-of-the-art terminal opened in 2013 and features two levels of shopping with a variety of food and beverage options as well as duty free, craft and jewelry retailers.

"The addition of JetBlue to the roster of airlines at the Quito Airport is a sign of the growing importance of Quito as a premier tourism destination on a regional scale, said Andrew O'Brian, president and CEO of Corporación Quiport, the concessionaire of the Quito International Airport. “It is also testament to the operational advantages that the Quito Airport offers to airlines including high safety standards, state of the art technology and excellent customer service. The arrival of JetBlue will have a positive impact on the development of tourism from and to the United States and it will offer Ecuadorian passengers greater connectivity from Fort Lauderdale.”
