UL Hosts Environment, Health, and Safety Roundtable in Shanghai

First-of-its kind event focuses on best practices to keep Chinese companies safe, healthy, and productive

SHANGHAI--()--On the eve of the Chinese New Year and the unveiling of the Thirteenth Five Year Plan, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) gathered a group of health and safety leaders from multinational organizations and educational institutions located in Shanghai to discuss employee safety, best safety practices, consistent messaging across cultures and organizations, and concerns specific to the Chinese market. The day-long event featured presentations by UL experts and vigorous participation by attendees, with an end goal to share actionable ideas to improve workplace health and safety and help develop a network of EHS professionals who can continue to cooperate within China.

“China has been undergoing a period of dynamic economic growth, unparalleled in the world,” said Weifang Zhou, UL senior vice president and president of UL Ventures. “As the country continues to diversify its economy, expand its workforce, and drive global economics, safety in the workplace will continue to be a pressing topic. This roundtable event brought together leading voices in Shanghai’s business community to share best practices, focus on areas of concern specific to Chinese industry, and explore how a consistent safety program can increase productivity and profitability.”

The roundtable marks an important step in broadening UL’s global safety message and further realizing UL’s mission of working for a safer world. “UL has been a leader in global science safety for more than 120 years, keeping products and workers safe throughout the world,” said Bill Conran, vice president of Global Strategy & Business Development for UL EHS Sustainability. “China’s unique business environment provides an opportunity for Chinese safety professionals to explore emerging best practices and special challenges in their specific market. We look forward to building these relationships and learning more about how we can collaborate to keep Chinese workers safe and healthy.”
