VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fast Company today announced its annual ranking of the world’s 50 Most Innovative Companies for 2016, honouring leading enterprises and rising newcomers that exemplify the best in nimble business and impactful innovation. Kit and Ace earned a spot on the list, and was also named one of the Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Retail alongside other creative retail upstarts like Everlane, Shopify and Farfetch.
“When we launched 18 months ago we had big plans and set out audacious goals,” said JJ Wilson, Co-founder and Head of Brand at Kit and Ace. “And today, we made one of those goals come true. This is a major achievement for Kit and Ace – we take pride in being an innovative company and we’re honoured to be recognized amongst some of the greatest companies in the world.”
Kit and Ace started with one shop in Vancouver, B.C. in July 2014 and exploded onto the retail scene in 2015, opening more than 60 doors worldwide across North America, the United Kingdom, Australia and Japan. The company’s impressive growth trajectory was fueled by increased demands for Kit and Ace’s proprietary family of fabrics (Qemir™), derived from noble fibres – including Technical Cashmere™. Over the course of one year, Kit and Ace designed and developed 150 proprietary fabrics, 50 of which were commercialized.
“My background is in fabric development and design – it’s what I’m passionate about. My focus with Kit and Ace was to build technical, functional streetwear working with some of my favourite fibres, like silk and cashmere,” explained Shannon Wilson, Co-founder and Creative Director at Kit and Ace. “We’re introducing Technical Silk™ this spring, and will continue to push ourselves to create proprietary fabrics that value people’s time and that function to keep up with a full-contact lifestyle.”
Most Innovative Companies is one of Fast Company’s most significant and highly anticipated editorial efforts of the year. To produce the 2016 list, the magazine’s editors spent a full year gathering and analyzing data on companies around the globe. For the first time, Fast Company enlisted machine intelligence to help inform the list: Quid, a San Francisco-based startup, used its software to create topographical maps of innovation across more than 40 sectors of the economy.
“This year’s package – which includes top ten lists in 27 sectors – emphasizes the breadth of companies with progressive, agile business models, cultures of creativity, and ability to adapt in today’s fast-paced world,” said Fast Company editor Robert Safian.
Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies issue (March 2016) is now available online at www.fastcompany.com/MIC as well as in app form via iTunes, and on newsstands beginning February 23rd.
